RAM's 2024 Heavy Duty chart publishes 44 RAM 2500 maximum-trailer ratings: 29 gas and 15 diesel cells. They span 10,610 to 20,000 lb, but those endpoints belong to different trucks. The 10,610-lb value is the 4x4 Power Wagon row. The 20,000-lb value appears only in three Cummins rows: 4x2 Crew Cab long box and 4x4 Crew Cab short box, each under identified 9,900- or 10,000-lb GVWR branches. This page preserves every populated 2500 cell, RAM's NA positions, an isolated 24,197-lb GCWR Mega Cab gas row, and the separate Rebel branch. It does not assign any catalogue rating to an unseen VIN.

Direct answer: 10,610 to 20,000 lb across 44 published ratings

There is no universal 2024 RAM 2500 towing capacity. RAM's one-page manufacturer matrix ties maximum trailer weight to engine, transmission, axle ratio, GVWR, GCWR, cab, box and 4x2 or 4x4. Special-model identity also matters for Power Wagon and Rebel.

The range is an observed minimum and maximum across populated cells, not a continuous allowance. Choose one complete row, then compare the individual truck's labels, installed hitch and loaded weights with GVWR, GAWR, GCWR, tire and component limits.

Select one complete configuration before using a number

Confirm that the vehicle is a 2024 RAM 2500 pickup, then record engine, transmission, axle ratio, displayed GVWR, cab, box and drivetrain. Do not select a result from a Cummins badge or 2500 door emblem alone.

The chart uses slash pairs in 4x2/4x4 order. NA means RAM did not publish that drive/body combination in the cell; it is not zero and is not permission to borrow the adjacent value. GCWR is a row selector as well as a loaded combination limit.

HEMI with 3.73 axle: all 14 standard-body ratings

The 3.73 gas rows share a 22,000-lb GCWR. Each GVWR row contains seven populated cells: Regular Cab, both Crew Cab box lengths and the 4x4 Mega Cab. RAM publishes no 4x2 Mega Cab figure.

A 100-lb GVWR label difference changes some values by 10 lb and leaves others unchanged. Preserve the printed cell rather than applying a flat adjustment.

HEMI with 4.10 axle: 14 standard-body ratings

The main 4.10 gas branch raises GCWR to 24,200 lb and publishes 13 ratings across the paired 9,900- and 10,000-lb GVWR rows. A separate 10,000-lb-GVWR, 24,197-lb-GCWR row supplies only the 4x4 Mega Cab value.

That isolated 16,700-lb Mega Cab cell is kept separate. The source does not authorize copying the blank Regular or Crew positions from the neighbouring 24,200-lb row.

Power Wagon is the 29th gas rating

RAM marks Power Wagon with a double-asterisk equipment note. Its only populated 2500 towing cell is the 4x4 Crew Cab short-box position: 8,565-lb GVWR, 18,000-lb GCWR and 10,610-lb maximum trailer weight.

Power Wagon is not a lower-GVWR version of a standard 4.10 row that can inherit 16,690 or 16,700 lb. The special row controls, and its separate payload cell is 1,650 lb.

Diesel special and lower-GCWR rows

The diesel table begins with Rebel and Mega Cab branches, then two 4x4 Crew Cab long-box rows. Every populated value is presented below; a blank body position remains blank.

Rebel carries a 9,680-lb GVWR and 23,100-lb GCWR. The standard Mega Cab rows use 24,240-lb GCWR, while the Crew Cab long-box 4x4 rows use 26,400 lb. Their 14,900–18,230-lb ratings cannot be replaced with the 20,000-lb headline.

Diesel Regular Cab: four high-capacity ratings

The 4x2 Regular Cab pair uses 27,320-lb GCWR and publishes 19,980 and 19,990 lb. The 4x4 pair uses 27,650-lb GCWR and publishes 19,960 lb for both GVWR branches.

Drive type is encoded directly in RAM’s cell. Do not subtract a generic four-wheel-drive weight from the 4x2 rating; use the paired 4x4 value.

Diesel Crew Cab short box: four ratings

The 4x2 Crew Cab short-box pair prints 19,980 lb at 27,700-lb GCWR. The 4x4 pair reaches 20,000 lb at 27,963 or 27,977-lb GCWR.

Both 4x4 rows reach the same trailer value, but their GVWR and GCWR selectors differ. Keep the matched row intact when documenting a candidate.

Diesel Crew Cab long box: two ratings

RAM publishes 4x2-only values in the high-GCWR Crew Cab long-box positions: 19,980 lb at 9,900-lb GVWR and 20,000 lb at 10,000-lb GVWR. The paired 4x4 positions are NA in these rows.

The separate 26,400-lb-GCWR rows above own the 4x4 long-box results. Merging them into this table would erase a 1,750–1,780-lb difference and the source’s distinct GCWR selectors.

The 44-rating count is a completeness check

The count covers every populated RAM 2500 towing cell in the reviewed manufacturer sheet. It does not count RAM 3500 cells, payload figures or NA positions as towing ratings.

Twenty-nine gas ratings consist of 14 HEMI/3.73 cells, 14 HEMI/4.10 standard-body cells and one Power Wagon cell. Fifteen diesel ratings consist of Rebel, Mega Cab, lower-GCWR Crew Cab and high-capacity Regular/Crew Cab cells.

The 2024 powertrains stay separate

RAM identifies the 6.4L HEMI at 410 hp and 429 lb-ft with the 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. Standard 2500 diesel rows use the 6.7L Cummins at 370 hp and 850 lb-ft with the 68RFE six-speed.

The sheet’s 420-hp, 1,075-lb-ft High-Output Cummins/Aisin branch belongs to RAM 3500 pickup columns. None of its 30,000-plus-pound ratings is transferred to RAM 2500.

Axle ratio changes gas GCWR, but not by itself

In the main gas rows, 3.73 corresponds to 22,000-lb GCWR and 4.10 to 24,200 lb. The trailer difference is about 2,200 lb within like body and drive cells, but the axle ratio is only one selector.

A 4.10 stamp does not turn a Power Wagon into a 17,000-lb row, and a 3.73 diesel axle does not identify which of several 14,900–20,000-lb diesel cells applies. Cab, box, drive, GVWR and GCWR remain necessary.

Payload is a separate constraint

RAM states that trailer-weight and payload ratings are mutually exclusive. The same sheet publishes payload from 1,650 to 4,000 lb in its RAM 2500 columns, but those catalogue figures do not represent remaining payload on an optioned, loaded truck.

People, cargo, accessories, hitch hardware and trailer tongue or pin weight consume actual carrying capacity. Compare the certification and tire/loading labels with measured axle weights; do not add the published maximum payload to the published maximum trailer value.

Reference 2500 payload cellPublished payload
Power Wagon 4x41,650 lb
Rebel 4x41,960 lb

Cummins, 10,000-lb GVWR Regular Cab 4x23,150 lb

Hitch type changes what the headline means

The chart recommends 10 percent conventional tongue weight and caps Class V receiver tongue weight at 1,800 lb. It requires a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch for trailers over 18,000 lb. A 20,000-lb source cell therefore is not a 20,000-lb conventional-receiver instruction.

RAM Canada’s 2024 utility page describes available factory fifth-wheel/gooseneck provisions. Prep hardware is not the hitch itself and does not override payload, rear GAWR, tire, wheel, trailer or installed-component ratings.

SAE J2807 assumptions are built into the catalogue values

RAM says its trailer-weight rating and tow-vehicle trailering weight follow SAE J2807 with 300 lb of passengers, 100 lb of options and standardized equipment weights of 75 lb for conventional, 70 lb for gooseneck and 250 lb for fifth-wheel towing.

Those inputs are not measurements of a particular used truck. More occupants, factory options, tools, auxiliary equipment, bed storage or a heavier hitch reduce margin. The source rounds all weights to the nearest 10 lb, except several printed GCWR totals that retain exact values.

GCWR must match the row and the loaded combination

The 2500 cells use 18,000, 22,000, 23,100, 24,197, 24,200, 24,240, 26,400, 27,320, 27,650, 27,700, 27,837, 27,840, 27,963 and 27,977-lb GCWR values. Similar-looking trucks can therefore have different combined limits.

After selecting the catalogue row, weigh the loaded truck and trailer. A published maximum-trailer cell never authorizes exceeding GCWR, GVWR, either GAWR, tire capacity, receiver, fifth-wheel, gooseneck or trailer-component ratings.

Canadian verification remains vehicle-specific

The numeric matrix is RAM’s U.S. 2024 manufacturer publication. RAM Canada’s dated 2024 towing pages support terminology, configuration factors and available equipment, but they do not convert the U.S. sheet into a rating for an unseen Canadian VIN.

For a Canadian truck, obtain the VIN/build or sales-code record, Canadian owner literature, certification and carrying-capacity labels, axle ratio, cab/box/drive identity, hitch documentation, tire and wheel ratings and loaded scale tickets. No original market or Canadian-VIN status is inferred.

Keep 2024 independent from adjacent model years

The 2024 sheet differs from the 2023 publications in format and several numbers. Its Power Wagon row is 10,610 lb, its Rebel row is 14,900 lb, and its top diesel cells reach 20,000 lb. Repeated-looking maxima do not make the year matrices interchangeable.

The 2025 and 2026 trucks introduce later powertrain and configuration changes. This URL owns only the 2024 long-tail intent; the general RAM 2500 towing guide remains the broad configuration authority.

Source method and document limits

The one-page RAM PDF was retrieved from the manufacturer on 14 September 2026. It is a 5,712,938-byte document created 20 September 2024; SHA-256 is 42c0f7f0d69ac9a502fc3264b3edf3efd234ffa50584682fdaf6a58cabf566ba. The full page was rendered and visually compared with layout-preserving extraction.

The sheet combines RAM 2500 and 3500 towing and payload tables. Only populated 2500 maximum-trailer cells were transcribed. No 3500 High-Output/Aisin value, blank cell, payload figure or illustration was reclassified as a 2500 towing rating.

Frequently asked questions

Can every 2024 RAM 2500 tow 20,000 lb? No. Three identified Cummins cells reach that value. Does every diesel exceed every gas rating? No; Rebel is 14,900 lb while the highest gas cell is 17,720 lb. Does 4.10 identify the maximum? No; the 20,000-lb cells use Cummins/3.73.

Is the 24,197-lb GCWR a typo? This page preserves it as printed and does not silently change it to 24,200. Can an NA cell be calculated? No. Can the 3500 High-Output table fill a 2500 blank? No. Can this page certify a Canadian truck? No.

What this guide establishes—and what it does not

It establishes all 44 populated 2024 RAM 2500 maximum-trailer cells, including 29 gas and 15 diesel ratings, their 10,610–20,000-lb span, and the exact engine, axle, GVWR, GCWR, body and drive boundaries visible in RAM’s source.

It does not certify an unseen Canadian VIN, original market, actual curb weight, payload remaining, completed upfit, installed hitch, loaded combination, axle or tire margin, trailer brakes, legal operation, reliability, failure rates, inventory, sellers, dealer counts, prices, financing or offers.

Evidence note: manufacturer documents establish the specific facts and applications cited. Buying workflows and cost scenarios are DieselTrucks.ca editorial guidance. These pages do not publish measured failure rates or confirm the condition, recall status or capacity of a particular truck.
