How much can my diesel truck tow? This calculation answers one part

The tool calculates payload used and remaining from the inputs you provide. It does not retrieve a VIN-specific tow rating or calculate every limit in the truck/trailer combination. Use the exact payload label and actual loaded tongue or pin weight, and keep kilograms and pounds consistent.

Ford's configuration tables illustrate why a model name or engine is insufficient to identify a trailer rating. Cab, wheelbase, axle, drivetrain, engine option and hitch type can lead to different rows. Use the correct year and market guide for the actual truck, then read the footnotes and verify its installed equipment.

What a positive payload result does and does not mean

A positive result means the entered payload demand is below the entered payload capacity. It does not confirm axle weights, tire capacity, hitch rating, GVWR, GCWR or the appropriate trailer rating. Those checks still need the relevant labels, documents and loaded measurements.

A negative result identifies a deficit in this calculation. Do not hide it by dropping passengers or cargo from the inputs if they will actually travel. Reconsider the real load, trailer or truck configuration and verify the revised plan. An added suspension component does not replace the original capacity assessment.

Replace assumptions before relying on the loaded setup

Keep the source and loading condition beside each number. Early trailer estimates should be identified as assumptions; actual measurements or suitable documentation should replace them when available. Account for permanent equipment and the hitch assembly without counting the same item twice.
