The 2026 RAM 2500 GVWR is not one number. RAM's reviewed Heavy Duty charts publish four gross vehicle weight ratings: 8,565 lb for the gas Power Wagon branch; 9,900 and 10,000 lb for the ordinary 6.4L HEMI V8 pickup configurations; and 9,900, 10,000 or a sales-code-bounded 11,040 lb for specified 6.7L high-output Cummins configurations. The correct row still depends on engine, cab, box and 4x2 or 4x4, and the certification label on the individual truck controls. GVWR is the rated maximum loaded truck weight. It is not curb weight, payload, GAWR, GCWR or towing capacity, and a family table cannot determine an unseen Canadian VIN. Research was refreshed 13 September 2026.
Direct answer: 8,565 to 11,040 lb across the reviewed branches
For the reviewed 2026 RAM 2500 pickup charts, the published GVWR range is 8,565–11,040 lb. The low endpoint belongs specifically to Power Wagon with the 6.4L HEMI V8, Crew Cab short box and 4x4. The high endpoint appears only in the high-output Cummins table and carries a sales-code condition.
Do not use either endpoint as a generic rating. Most gas rows offer 9,900- and 10,000-lb branches, while eligible diesel rows offer those two plus 11,040 lb. Select the exact source row, then confirm the completed truck's physical certification label.
| 2026 RAM 2500 branch | Published GVWR choices | Critical boundary |
|---|---|---|
| 6.4L HEMI V8 pickup | 9,900 or 10,000 lb | Regular Cab or Crew Cab source rows |
| Power Wagon | 8,565 lb | Crew Cab, 6-ft-4-in box, 4x4 only |
| 6.7L H.O. Cummins pickup | 9,900, 10,000 or 11,040 lb | 11,040 lb requires source-listed sales code |
| Individual truck | Certification-label value | Label controls the actual vehicle |
Select the configuration before selecting a rating
Start with model year and RAM 2500 pickup identity. Then record engine, cab, box and drivetrain exactly as RAM prints them. The chart separates Regular Cab with the 8-ft box, Crew Cab with the 6-ft-4-in or 8-ft box, Mega Cab with the 6-ft-4-in box, and the Power Wagon branch.
A source dash means unavailable in that cell; it is not a missing number to be copied from a nearby column. Trim, suspension and sales-code evidence can distinguish two trucks that otherwise share cab and drivetrain labels.
6.4L HEMI V8 GVWR matrix
RAM's 2026 gas-engine chart publishes paired 9,900- and 10,000-lb GVWR choices for Regular Cab long-box and both Crew Cab box lengths in 4x2 and 4x4 form. The table below preserves the source branches rather than collapsing them to the larger value.
Power Wagon is shown separately because its 8,565-lb rating and 4x4-only application do not match the ordinary Crew Cab short-box rows.
| 6.4L HEMI configuration | 4x2 GVWR | 4x4 GVWR | Source note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Cab, 8-ft box | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | Two published branches |
| Crew Cab, 6-ft-4-in box | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | Two published branches |
| Crew Cab, 8-ft box | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | 9,900 / 10,000 lb | Two published branches |
| Power Wagon, Crew Cab 6-ft-4-in box | — | 8,565 lb | 4x2 unavailable |
Power Wagon is its own 8,565-lb branch
The reviewed RAM chart places Power Wagon in the 6.4L HEMI table with Crew Cab, the 6-ft-4-in box and 4x4. Its GVWR is 8,565 lb, and the 4x2 cell is a dash. That exact identity matters because copying 9,900 or 10,000 lb from a neighbouring Crew Cab line would overstate the source rating.
Power Wagon equipment also does not authorize an assumption about payload. Read the tire/loading label and certification label on the candidate, then measure the loaded truck if the decision depends on remaining capacity.
6.7L high-output Cummins GVWR matrix
The reviewed diesel table publishes 9,900-, 10,000- and starred 11,040-lb branches. Crew Cab short-box and long-box rows contain both 4x2 and 4x4 values. Regular Cab and Mega Cab retain source dashes under 4x2 and populated 4x4 cells.
The table preserves all three rating choices because the maximum does not identify a truck's ordered rating. The 11,040-lb row also requires the separate sales-code check described below.
| 6.7L H.O. Cummins configuration | 4x2 GVWR | 4x4 GVWR | Availability note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Cab, 8-ft box | — | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | 4x2 unavailable |
| Crew Cab, 6-ft-4-in box | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | Both drivetrains populated |
| Crew Cab, 8-ft box | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | Both drivetrains populated |
| Mega Cab, 6-ft-4-in box | — | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 lb | 4x2 unavailable |
The 11,040-lb row is sales-code bounded
RAM Canada's chart marks the 11,040-lb diesel row for vehicles with sales codes Z2K, Z7G or Z3Y. The reviewed source does not translate those codes into a plain-language package name, so this guide does not invent one or assume that visible equipment proves the code.
Confirm the relevant sales code using manufacturer build evidence and the truck's labels. If that evidence is unavailable, retain 11,040 lb as a possible chart branch rather than assigning it to the candidate.
4x2 and 4x4 columns must stay in source order
The RAM charts order paired drivetrain values as 4x2 and 4x4. Keeping that header attached prevents a number from being mapped to the wrong driven-axle configuration. It also exposes the diesel Regular Cab, diesel Mega Cab and Power Wagon 4x2 dashes.
Four-wheel drive by itself does not reveal GVWR. Engine, cab, box and ordered rating remain necessary, and the physical certification label closes the decision for an individual truck.
Cab and box names are rating inputs, not styling details
Regular Cab in the reviewed pickup table is paired with the 8-ft box. Crew Cab appears with 6-ft-4-in and 8-ft boxes. Mega Cab appears with the 6-ft-4-in box and is 4x4 only in the reviewed configuration evidence.
Do not transfer a Crew Cab long-box value to a short box, or a pickup value to a chassis cab. The nearby RAM 3500 and chassis-cab tables are independent applications with different rating structures.
The certification label controls the individual truck
The Canadian chart directs readers to the vehicle certification label. That physical label is the decisive GVWR evidence for the completed truck because it follows the vehicle rather than a broad family description.
Photograph the label clearly and confirm model year, VIN displayed on the vehicle, GVWR and front/rear GAWR entries. A web selector, brochure maximum, advertisement or decoded equipment list does not replace the label.
GVWR is not payload
RAM defines payload as GVWR minus base weight in the reviewed Canadian chart. That formula explains why trucks with the same GVWR can have different payload estimates: their base weights differ by engine, drivetrain, cab, box and equipment.
The tire/loading label is the better truck-specific starting point for occupants and cargo. Occupants, tools, accessories, cargo and transferred trailer load all consume that allowance. @link How to read a payload label | /research/towing/how-to-read-payload-label
GVWR is not curb, base or actual weight
GVWR is a rating ceiling, while base or curb weight describes a truck in a defined reference condition and actual weight is what a scale measures in its present state. Subtracting a rounded chart payload from GVWR can produce a comparison estimate, not a direct factory curb-weight cell.
Use the dedicated curb-weight guide for the chart arithmetic and its rounding limits. For a working decision, weigh the truck with its real equipment, people, cargo and hitch. @link RAM 2500 curb weight and calculated base weight | /research/specs/ram-2500/curb-weight
GVWR and GAWR are independent limits
Gross axle weight rating limits the load carried by an axle system; GVWR limits the complete loaded truck. Staying below the whole-truck number does not prove that the front or rear axle is within its rating.
Obtain separate front- and rear-axle scale readings in operating condition. Compare each with its label GAWR while also checking the total against GVWR. Load placement and trailer load transfer can change the axle result without changing the cargo manifest.
GVWR does not establish GCWR or towing capacity
Gross combined weight rating applies to the loaded truck and loaded trailer together. Towing capacity also depends on engine, axle ratio, drivetrain, cab, box, hitch system, trailer type and other configuration evidence. A 10,000- or 11,040-lb GVWR is not a trailer rating.
RAM notes that maximum payload and maximum trailer weight are mutually exclusive. Use actual truck, axle and combination weights rather than trying to carry a maximum payload while simultaneously towing a maximum trailer. @link RAM 2500 towing capacity | /research/specs/ram-2500/towing-capacity @link GVWR, GAWR and GCWR explained | /research/towing/gvwr-gawr-gcwr-explained
Tires, wheels, hitch and trailer retain their own limits
No GVWR row increases a tire, wheel, receiver, ball, fifth-wheel hitch, gooseneck system or trailer component rating. Inspect each component's applicable label and instructions and use the lowest controlling limit for the operation.
Replacement tires, wheels, suspension parts or hitch equipment require documented compatibility. A modification may change actual weight or usable payload without changing the certification-label GVWR.
Use scale weights for a loaded-truck decision
Weigh the truck in the condition that matters: fuelled, with people, routine cargo, accessories and installed hitch. For trailering, obtain truck and trailer readings that allow total truck, front axle, rear axle and combination weight to be evaluated.
Record the scale date and loading manifest. A brochure table remains useful for identifying the rating branch, but only the scale shows current actual weight and axle distribution.
| Check | Evidence | Limit kept separate |
|---|---|---|
| Truck identity | 2026 pickup; engine, cab, box, drivetrain | Source-row eligibility |
| Ordered rating | Sales codes and build evidence | 9,900 / 10,000 / 11,040 branch |
| Physical labels | Certification and tire/loading labels | GVWR, GAWR and occupant/cargo allowance |
| Scale | Total, front axle, rear axle and combination readings | Actual operating weights |
| Components | Tires, wheels, hitch and trailer labels | Independent equipment limits |
Upfits and accessories consume weight allowance
Toolboxes, auxiliary fuel, winches, steps, caps, campers, snow equipment and in-bed hitches add actual weight. Occupants and ordinary cargo add more. These items can reduce available payload even when the truck retains its original labelled GVWR.
A body alteration or commercial upfit may introduce installer documentation and other operating requirements. This pickup guide does not certify a completed upfit, chassis cab or altered vehicle.
Canadian-market and VIN limits
The Canadian RAM chart is valuable because it publishes parallel kilogram/pound definitions, the sales-code note and the instruction to consult the certification label. It still cannot identify the build, present equipment or label value of an unseen Canadian VIN.
Use the candidate's build documentation and physical labels, then confirm current provincial or operational requirements where relevant. This guide makes no registration, licensing, inspection or legal-fitness determination.
Model-year and pickup scope is intentionally narrow
Every numeric branch on this page is bounded to the reviewed 2026 RAM 2500 pickup charts. An earlier or later truck needs its own model-year evidence because engines, packages, ratings and source notes can change.
RAM 3500 pickup, 2500/3500 chassis cab, incomplete vehicles and completed vocational bodies retain separate identities. No value here is transferred into those applications.
Source, review and rounding notes
The U.S. and Canadian 2026 RAM Heavy Duty payload/towing charts, the Stellantis Fleet buyer's guide and RAM's current configured specification surface were reviewed on 13 September 2026. The charts provide the rating matrices; the fleet guide corroborates pickup configuration identities; the live selector is only a companion for a selected vehicle.
RAM describes payload and trailer figures in the charts as estimated and rounded. This guide preserves source dashes, rating choices and conditions instead of deriving unsupported precision or treating a family maximum as an individual result.
RAM 2500 GVWR questions and conclusion
What is the GVWR of a 2026 RAM 2500? The reviewed pickup charts publish 8,565, 9,900, 10,000 and 11,040 lb across distinct configurations. Which one applies? Match engine, cab, box, drivetrain and any required sales code, then read the certification label on the truck.
Does the largest GVWR prove payload or towing capacity? No. Base or actual weight, axle ratings, tire/loading label, combination rating, hitch and trailer limits remain independent. No reliability result, inventory, seller, dealer count, price or offer is inferred; the commercial marketplace remains separately protected. @link RAM 2500 model guide | /research/models/ram-2500 @link Towing-capacity tool | /tools/towing-capacity @link Browse diesel trucks | /trucks
