Ford's independently reviewed 2022 F-250 SRW tables contain populated conventional ratings from 12,300 to 20,000 lb and fifth-wheel or gooseneck ratings from 12,200 to 22,800 lb. Those are table endpoints, not one rating for every F-250. The 20,000-lb conventional cells belong to selected 6.7L diesel configurations with 30,000-lb GCWR, High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package 535 and marked tire conditions. The 22,800-lb bed-mounted maximum is a Regular Cab 4x2 diesel gooseneck figure; Ford applies a 19,000-lb fifth-wheel cap to gooseneck-marked rows. The 2022 matrix also adds a distinct 3.55-axle, 23,500-lb-GCWR diesel branch and moves the single 7.3L Tremor bed-mounted result to the Crew Cab 4x4 long-box column, so a neighboring model-year table is not a substitute.

Direct answer: 12,200–22,800 lb across the reviewed 2022 tables

The conventional table's populated weight-carrying and weight-distributing cells run from 12,300 to 20,000 lb. Ordinary 23,500-lb-GCWR diesel rows reach 15,000 lb; the 20,000-lb branch appears only in selected 30,000-lb-GCWR package-535 columns. Gas conventional rows reach 15,000 lb.

The bed-mounted table spans 12,200 to 22,800 lb. Ford identifies many high-capacity values as gooseneck ratings, so the 22,800-lb number cannot be presented as fifth-wheel capacity. The actual truck's payload, GVWR, rear GAWR, tires, hitch and the trailer's ratings may impose lower limits.

Select one of ten exact body columns before reading a rating

Ford's 2022 selector prints ten body columns. Regular Cab has a 141.6-inch wheelbase and eight-foot box. SuperCab has 148.0-inch short-box and 164.2-inch long-box branches. Crew Cab has 159.8-inch short-box and 176.0-inch long-box branches. Each available body branch is divided between 4x2 and 4x4.

The decimal wheelbase is a useful identity check, but it does not certify trailer fit. Match cab, drivetrain, wheelbase and box as a unit, then find the engine, axle and GCWR row. A 6.7L badge or an approximate bed length alone cannot select a valid cell.

The conventional selector keeps carrying and distributing values separate

Every populated conventional position has a maximum weight-carrying and a maximum weight-distributing value. The pair can match or differ. For example, the 6.2L, 3.73, 19,500-lb-GCWR Regular Cab 4x2 cell is 13,000 lb carrying and 13,300 lb distributing; the diesel high-capacity Regular Cab 4x2 cell is 14,000 and 15,200 lb.

A weight-distributing setup does not override the receiver label, truck ratings or trailer limits. Preserve the paired values, use the hitch mode that is actually installed and compatible, and leave Ford's source dashes unavailable.

Diesel bed-mounted rows include an added 3.55 standard branch

For 2022, Ford prints both 3.31- and 3.55-axle diesel rows at 23,500-lb GCWR. The 3.55 row is included when ordered with the 3.55 Electronic Locking Axle without package 535 or Tremor. Its ten values run from 15,400 to 16,400 lb and do not carry the package-68D slash alternatives printed in the 3.31 row.

The 30,000-lb-GCWR rows remain package-535 branches and reach 22,800 lb in Regular Cab 4x2 form. Gooseneck markers remain attached to the high-capacity cells, and fifth-wheel use of those marked cells is capped at 19,000 lb.

Gas bed-mounted rows retain distinct axle, box and Tremor results

The 6.2L V8 uses 3.73 and 4.30 rows at 19,500- and 22,000-lb GCWR; its populated bed-mounted cells span 12,200–15,800 lb. The 7.3L V8 uses a 3.55 row at 21,800-lb GCWR and 4.30 rows at 24,900 or 26,000 lb; its populated cells span 14,400–19,500 lb.

The 24,900-lb Tremor row has one populated 17,200-lb cell in the Crew Cab 4x4 long-box column. The other nine positions are source dashes. The 26,000-lb row has optional 9,900-lb-GVWR alternatives in three positions and gooseneck markers in selected higher cells.

The 3.55 / 23,500-lb diesel row is a 2022-specific selector

The added 3.55 diesel row is not a duplicate label for the 3.31 row. Ford ties it to the 3.55 Electronic Locking Axle without the High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package or Tremor. The conventional values happen to match the 3.31 standard row, while the bed-mounted values form a distinct no-slash sequence from 16,400 to 15,400 lb.

A truck with package 535 belongs in the 30,000-lb-GCWR branch instead. A Tremor also falls outside this standard 3.55 footnote. Factory build evidence is therefore necessary even when the axle ratio is known.

Package 535 defines the 30,000-lb-GCWR diesel branch

Ford attaches F-250 High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package code 535 to every 30,000-lb-GCWR diesel row. A 6.7L engine and 3.31 or 3.55 axle ratio are not enough to claim a package-535 result. Confirm the factory package and the exact body column.

An aftermarket receiver, suspension component or replacement tire does not create a factory package or raise Ford's vehicle ratings. When package evidence is missing, do not move a truck from a verified 23,500-lb-GCWR branch to the higher row.

Tremor changes three specific printed positions

Tremor Off-Road Package 17Y is not a general capacity upgrade. In the conventional table, the 7.3L, 4.30, 24,900-lb-GCWR row contains one 15,000-lb carrying/distributing result in the Crew Cab 4x4 short-box column. In the diesel high-capacity bed-mounted row, the short-box Crew Cab 4x4 position is 19,100 lb normally and 17,800 lb with Tremor.

The 7.3L Tremor bed-mounted row is different: its only populated value is 17,200 lb in the Crew Cab 4x4 long-box column. This exact location differs from the separately reviewed 2021 selector and is why the model year and box must stay attached.

Package 68D slash values are alternatives, not ranges

Ford marks optional 9,900-lb GVWR Package 68D in selected bed-mounted cells. A 15,500/14,800-lb entry means 15,500 lb for the base branch and 14,800 lb for the marked 68D alternative; it does not describe a continuous range.

The package appears in the 3.31 standard diesel row and three cells of the 7.3L, 26,000-lb-GCWR row. It is not printed in the added 3.55/23,500 diesel row. Keep every slash with its original cell and package note.

Selected 20,000-lb conventional cells require marked tires

Ford's footnote requires 18-inch all-season or 20-inch all-terrain tires for the marked 20,000-lb conventional diesel cells. The requirement belongs only to the marked columns and does not mean that fitting either nominal tire size makes another configuration eligible for 20,000 lb.

Verify the actual tire size, type, load rating, condition and inflation along with the truck's tire label. Tire or axle capacity can become the controlling limit after occupants, cargo, hitch hardware and tongue load are added.

GCWR selects a row; it is not trailer capacity

Ford states that the tables are calculated with the SAE J2807 method. GCWR is the maximum combined truck-and-trailer weight, not the trailer rating. The diesel selector contains 23,500- and 30,000-lb-GCWR rows at the same axle ratio because package and equipment identity matter.

For a loaded-combination check, subtract the actual loaded truck weight from GCWR, then compare the remainder with the published trailer cell and all lower receiver, hitch, axle, tire and trailer limits. The subtraction does not replace any independent limit.

Tongue and pin load consume the truck's capacity

Ford's notes use 10% conventional tongue weight and 15% fifth-wheel or gooseneck king-pin weight. A 20,000-lb conventional trailer implies a 2,000-lb planning tongue load. A 22,800-lb gooseneck implies 3,420 lb at 15%, before hitch hardware, people and other cargo.

Those percentages are planning assumptions, not permission to exceed GVWR or rear GAWR. Follow the trailer maker's loading guidance and verify the loaded truck and combination on scales by axle.

Tailgate height does not guarantee bed-rail clearance

Ford lists a 57.8–60.0-inch maximum tailgate-height range for F-250 4x4 configurations and 59.7–61.3 inches for Tremor. The measurement is from the ground to the top of the closed tailgate lip at base curb weight and varies with configuration, options and tire size.

Those values do not establish fifth-wheel rail clearance, pin-box clearance or safe articulation. Measure the actual loaded truck and trailer on level ground, then follow the hitch and trailer manufacturers' clearance instructions.

Short-box turning clearance remains an independent fit check

A short-box column can carry a strong table rating while still presenting cab-to-trailer contact risk. Trailer nose shape, hitch location, pin-box geometry, turning angle and terrain determine clearance; Ford's weight table does not certify that geometry.

Use the exact hitch manufacturer's fit instructions and perform a controlled clearance check. A sliding hitch or specialized pin box must be approved for the specific truck, hitch and trailer combination and does not change the vehicle ratings.

The individual truck's labels and loaded weights control

The 2022 table is a configuration reference, not a substitute for the certification label, tire label or factory build record. Verify GVWR, front and rear GAWR, tire ratings, engine, axle, cab, box, drivetrain and factory packages before selecting a source cell.

Then weigh the truck in travel condition with fuel, occupants, cargo and installed hitch equipment. A published maximum loaded trailer weight cannot establish remaining payload or rear-axle margin without those vehicle-specific inputs.

Canadian trucks and neighboring years require separate verification

The reviewed PDF is Ford's U.S.-market 2022 guide. Ford Canada's current towing resources reinforce exact-vehicle verification but do not certify an unseen historical Canadian VIN or prove that every U.S. package was available on a Canadian truck. Use the vehicle's labels and build evidence.

The 2022 matrix was reviewed independently from 2021. Although both years share the same endpoints, 2022 adds the 3.55/23,500 diesel rows, changes the diesel Tremor alternative from 18,100 to 17,800 lb, and places a 17,200-lb 7.3L Tremor value in the long-box column instead of the prior year's 17,500-lb short-box cell.

Use a fixed lookup sequence and retain the source limits

Identify conventional, fifth-wheel or gooseneck use first. Record engine, axle and GCWR; then match cab, 4x2 or 4x4, exact wheelbase and box. Apply package 535, the electronic-locking-axle branch, Tremor 17Y, package 68D, tire and gooseneck footnotes only where Ford prints them. Compare the resulting cell with every truck, hitch, trailer and scale limit; the lowest verified constraint is the working limit.

What is the maximum 2022 Ford F-250 towing capacity? The reviewed configuration maxima are 20,000 lb conventional and 22,800 lb gooseneck. Can a fifth-wheel use 22,800 lb? No; Ford caps fifth-wheel use of gooseneck-marked rows at 19,000 lb. The evidence does not establish a universal rating, Canadian VIN result, reliability ranking, failure rate, inventory, seller or dealer count, price, financing or offer.
