Ten body columns select the correct row position

Ford splits the F-250 SRW into ten cab, drive, wheelbase and box columns. Regular Cab is an eight-foot-box, 142-inch-wheelbase truck. SuperCab uses 148-inch short-box and 164-inch long-box branches; Crew Cab uses 160-inch short-box and 176-inch long-box branches.

The table below preserves every position in Ford's 25,700-lb GCWR diesel row. It applies to both listed 3.31 and 3.55 axle branches and requires the Trailer Tow Package. Carrying means the receiver's weight-carrying mode; distributing means a weight-distributing hitch arrangement.

Fifth-wheel and gooseneck diesel rows

Bed-mounted ratings follow a separate table. At 23,500-lb GCWR, Ford publishes several 15,700–16,400-lb values. Higher GCWR rows are attached to particular body columns rather than forming a universal staircase.

The 25,700-lb row publishes 18,500 lb only for the Regular Cab 4x2. Ford marks it as a gooseneck value and caps fifth-wheel use at 18,000 lb. Keep that hitch distinction visible in every summary.

Gas rows remain configuration-specific

The 6.2L V8 uses a 19,500-lb GCWR row with the 3.73 axle and a 22,000-lb GCWR row with the 4.30 axle. The complete bed-mounted rows below show why one gas maximum cannot stand in for every cab and drivetrain.

Conventional ratings use separate carrying and distributing columns. The 4.30 gas row reaches 15,000 lb only in selected positions and falls to 14,800 lb for the long-box Crew Cab 4x4.

3.31 and 3.55 diesel branches cannot be guessed from the badge

Ford prints the same sparse GCWR structure under both diesel axle ratios in the reviewed tables. That does not make axle identity optional: the ratio must still be verified from build evidence before choosing the corresponding branch.

Do not estimate axle ratio from highway rpm, tire size or an exterior photograph. Check the truck's axle code and original equipment records, then confirm that later gearing, tire or driveline changes have not broken the source assumptions.

The 9,900-lb GVWR package is a separate source condition

Superscript 2 identifies the optional 9,900-lb GVWR Package, option code 68D. It appears beside particular GCWR branches rather than every diesel row.

That package marker is not extra payload and does not increase the truck's certification-label GVWR. Preserve the exact source row and read the physical labels instead of treating a lower GVWR package as a towing upgrade.

Trailer Tow Package markers stay attached

Superscript 3 marks rows that require Ford's Trailer Tow Package. The package condition accompanies the 25,200- and 25,700-lb conventional GCWR branches and several higher bed-mounted rows.

A receiver or bed hitch installed later is not evidence that the complete factory package is present. Verify the original build, installed cooling and electrical equipment, hitch label and condition before applying a package-dependent row.

Tongue and king-pin load consume truck capacity

Ford's guide uses 10% of total loaded trailer weight for conventional tongue load and 15% for fifth-wheel king-pin load in its note. Those transferred loads, plus passengers, cargo and hitch hardware, must fit within the truck's carrying capacity.

A trailer may be below its table maximum while the truck exceeds GVWR or rear GAWR. Weigh the loaded truck and trailer by axle and retain the certification, tire and hitch limits as independent checks.

GCWR is not trailer capacity by itself

GCWR limits the loaded truck-and-trailer combination. It does not mean the trailer can weigh the GCWR number, and subtracting an unrelated catalogue curb weight can create a false allowance.

Use the exact Ford trailer row, then verify actual loaded truck weight, trailer weight, axle loads, payload labels, tires and hitch. The lowest applicable limit controls the real combination.

Short-box clearance is a separate fifth-wheel check

The table includes 6.75-foot-box SuperCab and Crew Cab columns, but a published weight does not prove cab-to-trailer clearance through every turn. Hitch geometry, trailer nose, pin-box design and installed position remain physical fit questions.

Measure the actual combination through the manufacturer's required articulation range. A sliding hitch or other hardware must be approved and rated for the application; it does not change the Ford vehicle ratings.

Canadian trucks require exact-vehicle evidence

The reviewed 2018 matrix is manufacturer-authored U.S.-market evidence. It maps configurations but does not certify that an unseen truck was sold with the same equipment in Canada or establish a Canadian VIN's rating.

For a Canadian candidate, collect the VIN, certification and tire labels, axle code, original build record, hitch label and alteration history. Resolve any market or equipment mismatch before using the table.

How to identify the applicable row

Record model year, F-250 SRW pickup identity, engine, axle ratio, cab, 4x2 or 4x4, wheelbase and box. Next identify conventional, fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitching, then confirm receiver mode, GCWR branch and every required package.

Photograph the truck and hitch labels, inspect the installation and weigh the working combination. If any selector is unknown, keep the rating unresolved instead of choosing the highest number.

Diesel and gas are not one-variable alternatives

The diesel matrix reaches higher endpoints in selected rows, but engine choice also changes truck mass, maintenance, acquisition cost and the configuration available. Torque alone does not establish usable payload or a safe trailer match.

Compare job-capable trucks with the same passengers, cargo, hitch and trailer assumptions. Keep operating history and condition separate from the paper rating.
