GMC's official 2024 Sierra HD specifications publish 29 Sierra 3500HD pickup configurations and 87 hitch-specific trailer ratings across Duramax and gasoline, SRW and DRW branches. The matrix spans 14,500 to 36,000 lb. Its 36,000-lb endpoint applies only to the Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD DRW truck with the Max Trailering Package and a gooseneck hitch; that row is rated at 32,000 lb with a fifth-wheel hitch and 20,000 lb conventionally. Match engine, rear-wheel arrangement, cab, bed, drivetrain, GCWR, package and hitch column before using any value. These U.S. tables do not certify an unseen Canadian truck.

Direct answer: 14,500 to 36,000 lb across the 2024 matrix

For 2024, GMC publishes a 20,000-lb maximum conventional rating, a 32,000-lb maximum fifth-wheel rating and a 36,000-lb maximum gooseneck rating for Sierra 3500HD pickups. The in-bed maxima share the same cab, bed, drivetrain and dual-rear-wheel layout, but only the gooseneck row with the Max Trailering Package reaches 36,000 lb.

At the low end, 14,500 lb appears in conventional cells on gas and Duramax SRW configurations. A 3500HD badge, Duramax engine or dually body alone is therefore insufficient to select a rating.

How to select the correct 2024 row

Begin with SRW or DRW and the installed engine. Then match Regular, Double or Crew Cab, long or standard bed, and 2WD or 4WD. Retain the GVWR and GCWR printed on that same row, identify any required package, and use only the conventional, fifth-wheel or gooseneck column that matches the installed towing system.

Do not transfer the 43,900-lb GCWR or 36,000-lb gooseneck result to a similar-looking truck. Other Duramax DRW rows use 40,000 or 43,500 lb GCWR, diesel SRW rows use 30,000 or 30,300 lb, and gas rows use 26,000 lb. GCWR is a combined truck-and-trailer ceiling, not trailer capacity.

Duramax SRW: eight configurations

The diesel SRW branch contains eight body-and-drive combinations. Regular Cab rows remain at 14,500 lb conventionally; the Double and Crew Cab rows reach 20,000 lb. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck values match within each source row and run from 21,510 to 22,430 lb.

The Crew Cab 4WD rows carry trim notes. On the standard-bed row, the 21,600-lb base in-bed value becomes 21,300 lb for AT4, 21,200 lb for Denali and 21,100 lb for Denali Ultimate. On the long-bed row, the 21,510-lb base value becomes 21,200, 21,100 and 21,000 lb respectively.

Duramax DRW: seven configurations

The diesel dually branch has seven rows because GMC publishes separate Regular Cab 2WD entries with and without the Max Trailering Package. Both are rated at 20,000 lb conventionally and 32,000 lb with a fifth-wheel hitch. The base row is 35,500 lb gooseneck, while the Max Trailering Package row uses 43,900-lb GCWR and reaches 36,000 lb gooseneck.

The five remaining DRW rows use 40,000-lb GCWR and in-bed ratings from 31,000 to 31,580 lb. GMC narrows the Crew Cab 4WD base in-bed value of 31,000 lb to 30,800 lb for Denali and 30,700 lb for Denali Ultimate.

6.6L gas SRW: eight configurations

Every gas SRW row uses a 26,000-lb GCWR. Conventional ratings are 14,500 lb for the Regular Cab rows and 16,000 lb for Double and Crew Cab. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck values match within each row, ranging from 18,230 to 19,080 lb.

Crew Cab 4WD trim notes remain attached to their source rows. The standard-bed 18,300-lb base in-bed value becomes 17,900 lb for AT4 or Denali. The long-bed 18,230-lb base value becomes 17,800 lb for either trim.

6.6L gas DRW: six configurations

The gas DRW table uses 26,000-lb GCWR throughout, but the trailer columns are not one repeated limit. Conventional ratings run from 17,800 to 18,700 lb; fifth-wheel and gooseneck values run from 17,800 to 18,760 lb. Several rows print a conventional number slightly above or below the in-bed value, so columns cannot be substituted.

On the Crew Cab 4WD row, GMC narrows the 17,800-lb base conventional and in-bed values to 17,500 lb for Denali. That is a trim condition on the existing row, not a generic Sierra 3500HD maximum.

Matrix accounting and payload context

The 87 trailer cells are the 29 published 3500HD configurations multiplied by GMC's three hitch columns. The extra 2024 diesel dually row is not a duplicate: it distinguishes the Regular Cab 2WD Max Trailering Package branch from the base truck. Repeated numbers remain attached to their source rows.

GMC's adjacent payload values are configuration context, not towing arithmetic. Across the 3500HD rows they span 4,145 to 6,584 lb for Duramax and 4,324 to 7,234 lb for gas. The gas Regular Cab 2WD DRW truck has the payload maximum, while a different diesel package-and-hitch combination has the towing maximum.

The 2024 powertrain change does not replace configuration matching

The 2024 guide identifies the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft and the 6.6L gas V8 at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft. Both use an Allison 10-speed automatic; the specifications list a 3.42 final-drive ratio for diesel and 3.73 for gas. These details identify the correct source branch but do not supply a universal towing number.

Do not backfill the 2024 Duramax output or gasoline 10-speed into an earlier model-year page. Exact-year cab, drive, wheel arrangement, GVWR, GCWR, package and hitch evidence remains controlling.

SRW, DRW, bed and package identity remain separate

GMC publishes independent SRW and DRW branches. DRW entries use long beds, while SRW also includes standard-bed Crew Cab rows. A standard-bed dually row is absent and has not been invented.

The 3500 Max Trailering Package requires a 2WD DRW Duramax model and is limited to Regular Cab Pro in GMC's package description. It adds required equipment for the 36,000-lb gooseneck endpoint; it does not raise the fifth-wheel column above 32,000 lb.

GCWR, payload and trailer rating are independent limits

GCWR is the combined ceiling for the properly equipped truck and trailer. Trailer weight rating is separate, and neither proves that payload, rear GAWR, tire capacity or hitch rating remains after passengers, cargo, accessories and hitch mass are loaded.

Use the individual tire-and-loading label, certification label, owner's manual and hitch documentation. The lowest controlling truck, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or legal limit governs; unused GCWR cannot override another limit.

Canadian verification starts with the individual truck

This complete matrix is from GMC's U.S. 2024 publication. It does not establish Canadian-market equipment, certify a VIN or decide provincial or territorial compliance. Confirm the Canadian certification and tire-and-loading labels, build information, owner's manual and installed hitch documents for the actual truck.

For a service body, altered pickup or other upfit, obtain final-stage manufacturer and installer records. A factory pickup-table value cannot be assumed to survive an undocumented body, axle-loading or hitch change.

Source review and exclusions

GMC's 35-page 2024 Sierra HD Features, Specs and Options PDF was downloaded directly and hashed SHA-256 cc8d5a5478b44343d6f9d7ddcef233deb7a12c24d9d07d4c3c1de6ae111cba89. Numbered pages 19 and 20 were visually reviewed on 14 September 2026 for the complete diesel and gas Sierra 3500HD branches. Numbered page 21 begins the separate Sierra 2500HD 10,000-lb-GVWR-and-under matrix and is excluded.

Every populated 3500HD conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck cell was transcribed. The payload column and AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate footnotes remain context, not towing arithmetic. No 2023 value fills a 2024 cell, and no 2500HD row, absent body style, Canadian VIN status, reliability result or commercial claim is inferred.
