GM's official 2025 Vehicle Order Guide publishes 23 Sierra 3500HD configuration rows in separate ball-hitch and combined fifth-wheel-or-gooseneck tables. Ratings span 14,500 to 36,000 lb. The 36,000-lb maximum is confined to a Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD dual-rear-wheel truck with the NHT Max Trailering Package and an in-bed hitch. The non-NHT version of that same configuration is 35,500 lb in-bed, while its conventional rating is 20,000 lb. This guide preserves every gas, diesel, SRW, DRW, trim and source-dash position without importing adjacent-year values.

Direct answer: 14,500 to 36,000 lb in GM's 2025 table

The highest 2025 Sierra 3500HD rating is 36,000 lb on GM row TC30903 with DRW and NHT: Regular Cab, long bed, 2WD, Duramax, 3.42 axle, Max Trailering Package and a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. Without NHT, the comparable Duramax DRW row is 35,500 lb in-bed and 20,000 lb conventional.

The maximum conventional rating is 20,000 lb on the listed Duramax SRW and DRW configurations. The lowest published positions are 14,500 lb on Regular Cab long-bed SRW conventional rows for both engines.

Decode cab, drive and rear-wheel identity first

TC identifies 2WD and TK identifies 4WD. The 30743 code is Crew Cab standard bed; 30943 is Crew Cab long bed; 30953 is Double Cab long bed; and 30903 is Regular Cab long bed. SRW and DRW remain separate rows because their carrying structure and trailer ratings differ materially.

Gas rows use the L8T 6.6L V8 with a 3.73 axle. Duramax rows use the L5P 6.6L turbo-diesel with a 3.42 axle. Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4 and NHT suffixes are configuration controls, not decoration. A source dash remains unavailable.

The table combines GM's two official hitch views row by row. Conventional means ball hitch. In-bed means the source's combined fifth-wheel-or-gooseneck column; GM does not publish a separate fifth-wheel versus gooseneck split in this 2025 order-guide table. Ratings are pounds.

DRW and NHT are separate decisions

DRW creates the large diesel in-bed steps: TC30943 moves from 22,070 lb SRW to 31,440 lb DRW, while TC30903 moves from 22,420 lb SRW to 35,500 lb DRW. Those are distinct configurations, not payload arithmetic that can be recreated from a badge.

NHT then creates the 36,000-lb TC30903 DRW position. It does not change that row into a 36,000-lb conventional truck; GM keeps conventional at 20,000 lb. The hitch method and installed package must both match.

The combined in-bed column has a real evidence limit

GM labels the 2025 table '5th Wheel or Gooseneck Hitch' and publishes one number per engine and row. Unlike the separate 2026 chart, it does not provide two values for fifth-wheel and gooseneck towing. This page therefore reports a combined in-bed position and does not invent a split.

A fifth-wheel or gooseneck installation still needs its own rating, attachment, clearance and load-distribution checks. The trailer, hitch, bed system and actual pin weight can impose a lower limit than the vehicle table.

GCWR and payload remain independent gates

The official guide publishes a 26,000-lb gas GCWR branch and Duramax branches at 30,000, 40,000, 43,500 and 43,900 lb. GCWR is not towing capacity and cannot be added to the trailer cell. It limits the combined loaded truck and trailer.

Passengers, cargo, accessories, the hitch and pin or tongue weight all consume truck and axle capacity. Use the certification label, tire-and-loading label, trailering information label and actual scale weights. The lowest applicable vehicle, axle, tire, wheel, hitch or trailer limit controls.

Verify the exact truck and Canadian application

GM's U.S. order guide establishes the 2025 rows but does not certify an unseen Canadian VIN. Match cab, bed, drive, SRW or DRW, engine, axle, trim and NHT content to the individual truck, then confirm the truck's own labels and build record.

A service body, replacement pickup box, auxiliary equipment, altered suspension or undocumented hitch can change the completed vehicle. Obtain the upfitter and installer documents before relying on an original pickup-table figure.

Source method and limits

The 2025 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Retail and Fleet model-home and Trailering Specs pages were opened in GM's official Vehicle Order Guide on 16 September 2026. Both hitch views were selected directly, and all 23 displayed rows were transcribed and reconciled with the available-model identities.

The source is a live order/reference application rather than a downloadable PDF, so no PDF page count, file size or binary hash is claimed. GM warns that feature availability changes through the model year and directs users to the specific vehicle's window label. Superscript footnote markers attached to the 35,500- and 36,000-lb rows remain source qualifications; they are not silently discarded or expanded beyond the live guide.

Common 2025 Sierra 3500HD questions

These answers stay inside GM's exact-year table and do not replace the individual truck's documents.

QuestionAnswer
Can every 2025 Sierra 3500HD tow 36,000 lb?No. GM assigns it only to TC30903 Duramax DRW 2WD with NHT and an in-bed hitch.
What is the non-NHT maximum?35,500 lb on the comparable TC30903 Duramax DRW 2WD in-bed row.
What is the maximum conventional rating?20,000 lb on the listed Duramax branches.
Are fifth-wheel and gooseneck numbers separate? No. This 2025 source publishes one combined in-bed value.
Does this certify a Canadian VIN or modified truck? No. Confirm the individual truck, labels, equipment and completed-vehicle records.
