GMC's official two-page 2026 Sierra 2500HD chart publishes conventional and combined fifth-wheel/gooseneck ratings across gas and Duramax configurations. The populated values run from 14,500 to 22,390 lb. The 22,390-lb maximum belongs only to a Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD truck in the 30,000-lb-GCWR Max Trailering Package branch with an in-bed hitch. Cab, bed, drive, engine, GCWR row, package, wheels, trim footnote and hitch method remain part of the answer; the largest cell is not a universal rating.
Direct answer: 14,500 to 22,390 lb in the 2026 chart
The highest published 2026 Sierra 2500HD rating is 22,390 lb. GMC places it in the Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD, 30,000-lb-GCWR Max Trailering Package row for fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing. The same body and drive combination is 14,500 lb conventionally.
Maximum conventional towing is 20,000 lb in selected Duramax Crew Cab Max Trailering Package rows. The smallest populated chart values are 14,500 lb, appearing in multiple conventional branches. Ratings can be lower than the base row when an AT4, AT4X, AEV Edition, Denali or Denali Ultimate footnote applies.

| Highest Crew Cab in-bed | Duramax Crew Cab long bed 2WD; 30,300-lb GCWR; Max Trailering Package | 21,870 lb |
| Maximum conventional | Selected Duramax Crew Cab; Max Trailering Package | 20,000 lb |
| Highest gas in-bed | Gas Regular Cab long bed 2WD; 26,000-lb GCWR | 18,700 lb |
| Smallest populated cell | Multiple conventional configurations | 14,500 lb |
How to read the selector
The chart columns describe ten bodies: Crew Cab standard or long bed in 2WD or 4WD, Double Cab standard or long bed in 2WD or 4WD, and Regular Cab long bed in 2WD or 4WD. Rows then separate the 6.6L gas V8 from the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel and divide ratings by GCWR.
A dash is a real source blank. It means GMC did not publish that body in that rating row; it is not permission to copy a value from another cab, another GCWR branch or the 2025 chart. Superscript notes create trim-specific limits or require wheels and the Max Trailering Package.
Base conventional ratings
This table transposes GMC's first page so each body stays on one row. Values are pounds. The 26,000- and 27,500-lb rows marked by GMC require available 18- or 20-inch wheels; the 30,000- and 30,300-lb rows require the Max Trailering Package.

Conventional trim footnote
GMC adds one conventional trim-specific value outside the base cells: the Duramax Crew Cab standard-bed 4WD AT4X AEV Edition is limited to 18,400 lb in the 27,500-lb-GCWR branch. That note remains separate from the 18,500-lb base cell.
The chart's wheel and package notes remain prerequisites rather than capacity bonuses. A truck must actually have the required equipment and still comply with every label, axle, tire, hitch and loading limit.
| Engine | Body | GCWR | Trim note | Conventional |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duramax 6.6L | Crew Cab standard bed 4WD | 27,500 lb | AT4X AEV Edition | 18,400 lb |
Base fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings
GMC publishes one combined fifth-wheel/gooseneck field for each position on page two. The values below are therefore counted once, not duplicated into invented separate hitch ratings. Use an in-bed hitch that is itself rated and installed for the application.

Trim-specific fifth-wheel and gooseneck limits
Four trim families create lower in-bed ratings in selected Crew Cab 4WD cells. GMC lists AT4, AT4X and AEV limits separately from Denali and Denali Ultimate. A shopper must select the trim-specific row rather than the largest number in the same GCWR band.
The gas 26,000-lb branch includes separate AT4/AT4X/Denali, AT4/Denali and AEV notes. The diesel 27,500- and 30,000-lb branches add distinct AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate and AEV values.

Coverage accounting: 97 populated rating positions
The first page contains 40 populated base conventional cells plus one AEV trim override. The second page contains 40 populated base fifth-wheel/gooseneck cells and 16 trim-specific alternatives. That produces 97 attributable rating positions without multiplying the combined in-bed field into two unsupported numbers.
Source blanks remain blanks. GCWR values, trim notes and package requirements are selectors and limits; they are not additional trailer ratings.
| 2026 chart portion | Base cells | Trim alternatives | Published rating positions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conventional | 40 | 1 | 41 |
| Fifth-wheel/gooseneck | 40 | 16 | 56 |
| Total | 80 | 17 | 97 |
The 2026 maximum is not the 2024 maximum
The 2024 guide publishes 22,430 lb for its top Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD Max Trailering cell. The official 2026 chart publishes 22,390 lb for the corresponding broad body, drive and package branch. This page uses the exact 2026 value and does not carry the older maximum forward.
The 2026 Crew Cab long-bed 2WD package branch is 21,870 lb with 30,300-lb GCWR. That exact value also appears on GMC's archived 2025 model page as the 2025 Crew Cab maximum, but the matching headline does not authorize copying a 2025 configuration matrix into 2026.
GCWR and trailer rating remain separate limits
GCWR is the maximum loaded weight of the truck-and-trailer combination when properly equipped. A trailer rating is the chart's comparison limit for a specific configuration. Neither replaces the truck's GVWR, axle ratings, tire limits, hitch rating or payload available after occupants and cargo are loaded.
Tongue or pin weight, the hitch, passengers, tools, accessories and cargo all add to the truck. Start with the exact chart cell, then compare measured travel-ready weights with every independent limit.
Official source and visual verification
GMC's official two-page 2026 Sierra 2500HD trailering chart was reviewed on 14 September 2026. Page one is the conventional matrix and page two is the combined fifth-wheel/gooseneck matrix. Both were visually rendered in the manufacturer-hosted PDF viewer and checked against the extracted text, including every column, dash and superscript footnote used here.
The current GMC trailering hub links directly to the chart. No dealer table, secondary article or adjacent Silverado or Sierra 3500HD value supplies a rating on this page.
Verify the individual 2026 truck
Confirm the truck is a 2026 Sierra 2500HD, then record engine, cab, bed, drivetrain, GCWR branch, wheel requirement, Max Trailering Package, trim and hitch type. Photograph the certification, tire/loading and trailering labels and obtain the build record before assigning a chart cell.
Weigh the truck and trailer in travel-ready condition. Compare vehicle, axle, combination and tongue or pin weights with the applicable labels and the ratings of the receiver or in-bed hitch, coupler, trailer and tires.
Canadian use requires Canadian vehicle evidence
The complete configuration chart is U.S.-market manufacturer evidence. It does not establish the origin, certification, equipment or compliance status of an unseen Canadian VIN. Canadian owners should use the truck's own labels, build documentation and installed hardware, plus the applicable provincial or territorial rules.
No U.S. Max Trailering or trim row is silently converted into a Canadian rating. Registration class, licensing and commercial-use requirements are also outside this chart.
FAQ: does every 2026 Duramax 2500HD tow 22,390 lb?
No. That value is confined to the Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD, 30,000-lb-GCWR Max Trailering Package row with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. Other diesel in-bed cells run from 14,800 lb for the AT4X AEV trim note to 22,000 lb in the Regular Cab 4WD package row, while conventional cells top out at 20,000 lb.
