GM's official 2025 Vehicle Order Guide publishes 30 Sierra 2500HD configuration rows in separate ball-hitch and combined fifth-wheel-or-gooseneck tables. The range is 14,500 to 22,390 lb. The 22,390-lb maximum belongs only to a Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD with the NHT Max Trailering Package and an in-bed hitch; it is not a rating for every Sierra 2500HD. This guide preserves every published gas and diesel cell, every source dash, and the trim and package qualifiers without importing 2024 or 2026 values.
Direct answer: 14,500 to 22,390 lb in the official 2025 guide
The highest 2025 Sierra 2500HD rating in GM's table is 22,390 lb. It requires model TC20903: Regular Cab, long bed, 2WD, Duramax, 3.42 axle and the NHT Max Trailering Package, using a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. The corresponding non-NHT Duramax row is 18,400 lb in-bed and 14,500 lb conventional.
The highest conventional rating is 20,000 lb on the listed Duramax NHT Crew Cab branches. Several Double Cab standard-bed and Regular Cab conventional cells remain 14,500 lb. The table is therefore a configuration lookup, not a single-number answer.
| Reference | Exact 2025 branch | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Overall maximum | TC20903 NHT; Duramax; in-bed hitch | 22,390 lb |
| Maximum conventional | Listed Duramax NHT Crew Cab branches | 20,000 lb |
| Highest gas in-bed | TC20903; Regular Cab long-bed 2WD | 18,700 lb |
| Lowest published cells | Selected Double Cab standard-bed and Regular Cab conventional rows | 14,500 lb |
Decode the GM model identities before using a row
GM's model codes retain the cab, bed and drive identity. TC means 2WD and TK means 4WD. The 20743 code is Crew Cab standard bed, 20943 is Crew Cab long bed, 20753 is Double Cab standard bed, 20953 is Double Cab long bed, and 20903 is Regular Cab long bed. A trim or NHT suffix narrows the row further.
Gas uses the L8T 6.6L V8 with a 3.73 axle in this table. Duramax uses the L5P 6.6L turbo-diesel with a 3.42 axle. A dash is an unavailable source position, not permission to copy the other engine's rating.

Each row below combines the two official GM tables without combining configurations. Conventional means the ball-hitch table. In-bed means GM's combined fifth-wheel-or-gooseneck table; the source does not publish separate fifth-wheel and gooseneck numbers for these 2025 rows. Ratings are pounds.

NHT changes the row, not just the headline
The NHT Max Trailering Package creates specific Duramax branches. On TC20903 it raises the in-bed position from 18,400 to 22,390 lb while conventional remains 14,500 lb. On TC20943 it produces 20,000 lb conventional and 21,870 lb in-bed. Those changes cannot be transferred to a truck that lacks the package.
Trim branches also matter. The AT4X AEV diesel row is 18,400 lb conventional but 14,800 lb in-bed, while the ordinary AT4X diesel row is 18,500 and 17,300 lb. More equipment or a more expensive trim does not automatically create a higher trailer rating.
GCWR is a gate, not spare trailer allowance
GM publishes 24,500- and 26,000-lb gas GCWR branches and 26,000-, 27,500- and 30,000-lb Duramax branches. GCWR does not replace the trailer cell. It limits the actual loaded combination and must be considered with GVWR, GAWR, tire, wheel, hitch and trailer limits.
Passengers, cargo, accessories and pin or tongue weight load the truck. A catalogue maximum can become unusable before the trailer reaches that number if a truck or axle limit is reached first. Weigh the actual combination and use the lowest applicable limit.
Verify the individual truck and Canadian application
The GM Fleet guide is a U.S. manufacturer source. It establishes the published 2025 configuration rows, but it does not identify an unseen Canadian VIN or prove its equipment. Match the model code, engine, axle, trim and NHT content, then check the truck's certification label, tire-and-loading label, trailering information label, build record and installed hitch.
If the pickup has an upfit, replacement body, altered suspension or undocumented hitch work, obtain completed-vehicle and installer records. The original table cannot certify a modified truck.
Source method and limits
The 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Retail and Fleet model-home and Trailering Specs pages were opened in GM's official Vehicle Order Guide on 16 September 2026. Both hitch views were selected directly, and all 30 displayed rows were transcribed and cross-checked against the page's available-model identities.
The source is a live order/reference application rather than a downloadable PDF, so no PDF page count, binary size or SHA-256 is claimed. GM states that the guide changes through the model year and that the specific vehicle's window label determines content. The matrix is preserved as retrieved, including a displayed 3.43 axle value on two Denali Ultimate in-bed rows; this guide does not silently normalize that source text.
Common 2025 Sierra 2500HD questions
These answers remain within GM's exact-year evidence and do not replace the truck's labels.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can every 2025 Sierra 2500HD tow 22,390 lb? | No. That number belongs to TC20903 Duramax 2WD with NHT and an in-bed hitch. |
| What is the maximum conventional rating? | 20,000 lb on the listed Duramax NHT Crew Cab branches. |
| Are fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings separate here? | No. GM's 2025 source publishes one combined in-bed column. |
| Does diesel always rate higher than gas? | No. The exact row and hitch method control; several trim branches show lower diesel in-bed numbers. |
| Does this certify a Canadian VIN? | No. Verify the individual truck, equipment and labels. |
