RAM's official 2024 Heavy Duty matrix publishes 78 populated RAM 3500 maximum-trailer values from 14,390 to 37,090 lb. The minimum is the gas Mega Cab 4x4 with 3.73 axle, 11,400-lb GVWR and 22,000-lb GCWR. The maximum is confined to high-output Cummins Regular Cab 4x2 rows with the Aisin transmission, 4.10 axle and 45,000-lb GCWR. The source compresses drivetrain alternatives into slash-separated 4x2/4x4 cells, so each half, NA marker, engine, cab, axle, GVWR and GCWR must remain attached to its own row. These are configuration estimates, not certification of an unseen Canadian VIN or a loaded truck.

Direct answer: 14,390 to 37,090 lb across 78 values

The lowest populated RAM 3500 half-cell is 14,390 lb: gas Mega Cab 4x4, 3.73 axle, 11,400-lb GVWR and 22,000-lb GCWR. The paired 4x2 position is NA because the matrix does not publish a Mega Cab 4x2 result.

The 37,090-lb maximum appears on two Regular Cab 4x2 high-output Cummins rows, both with the Aisin, 4.10 axle and 45,000-lb GCWR: one at 13,500-lb GVWR and one at 14,000 lb. Their paired 4x4 positions are NA, so the headline cannot be transferred to a 4x4.

Read every slash as 4x2 first, 4x4 second

The header defines each slash pair as 4x2/4x4. A cell such as 15,470/15,090 is two ratings, while NA/14,390 publishes only the 4x4 value and 37,090/NA only the 4x2 value. This guide retains that order rather than averaging, swapping or filling an unavailable half.

Match engine and transmission, axle ratio, GVWR, GCWR, cab and box before reading a cell. The completed truck's certification and loading labels then determine which branch can be considered.

All 24 gas RAM 3500 ratings

The gas block uses the 6.4L HEMI V8 and 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. Fourteen populated cells yield 24 actual values because four Mega Cab cells have an unavailable 4x2 half. The 3.73 rows use 22,000- or 22,600-lb GCWR; 4.10 rows use 24,200 or 25,000 lb.

All 27 standard-output Cummins ratings

The standard-output 6.7L Cummins uses the 68RFE six-speed. Sixteen cells yield 27 values: Regular and Crew Cab cells generally publish both drivetrains, while each Mega Cab cell keeps NA in the 4x2 half. The 13,500- and 14,000-lb GVWR blocks remain distinct even where values repeat.

All 27 high-output Cummins ratings

The high-output 6.7L Cummins uses the Aisin AS69RC six-speed. Several early rows publish only one drivetrain, while the heavier DRW blocks add paired Regular and Crew Cab cells. The source's exact 31,946-, 33,918-, 38,937-, 39,658-, 41,596-, 41,955-, 42,657- and 42,866-lb GCWR selectors are retained rather than normalized.

The 13,500-lb-GVWR, 4.10, 41,955-lb-GCWR source row has no populated RAM 3500 trailer cell and therefore does not appear as a rating below. Its blank is not replaced by the nearby 32,950-lb Mega Cab value, which belongs to the 14,000-lb-GVWR block.

The 78-value count is auditable

Gas has 14 populated source cells containing 24 values, standard-output Cummins has 16 cells containing 27 values and high-output Cummins has 24 cells containing 27 values. NA halves do not count as ratings, and the entirely blank 13,500/4.10/41,955 row contributes none.

Payload and trailer maxima are mutually exclusive

RAM states that Trailer Weight Rating and Payload Rating are mutually exclusive. Tongue or pin weight loads the truck together with occupants, options, tools, accessories, hitch hardware and cargo. A published trailer value cannot be added to maximum payload as though both conditions occur simultaneously.

The SAE J2807 assumptions are not an operating load ticket

The matrix states 300 lb of passenger weight, 100 lb of options and trailering-equipment weights of 75 lb for a conventional hitch, 70 lb for a gooseneck and 250 lb for a fifth wheel. Those calculation assumptions do not account for every real passenger, accessory, cargo item, body change or installed hitch on a candidate truck.

Published assumptionSource amountOwner check
Passenger weight300 lbCount actual occupants
Options weight100 lbIdentify installed factory and aftermarket equipment
Conventional equipment75 lbVerify receiver and hardware
Gooseneck equipment70 lbVerify installed system and limits
Fifth-wheel equipment250 lbVerify hitch, rails and pin load

One trailer column does not create method-specific ratings

The footnote requires a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch for trailers over 18,000 lb and limits the Class V receiver's maximum tongue weight to 1,800 lb. The matrix still publishes one maximum-trailer column rather than separate conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck matrices. No missing method-specific result is inferred.

GVWR, GCWR and GAWR remain independent

GVWR constrains the truck, GCWR constrains the loaded truck and trailer together, and GAWR constrains each axle. The selected maximum-trailer cell cannot override any of those limits, the tires, the hitch, the trailer or applicable law. Use the lowest applicable limit after the truck is configured and loaded.

No box-off or chassis-cab result is present

The reviewed 2024 page labels its matrix for Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickups with factory cab-and-bed columns. It does not publish a separate box-off matrix. No pickup-box-delete, chassis-cab, aftermarket-body or completion-weight value is calculated or transferred into this guide.

Exact-year evidence controls

The 2024 matrix is independently authored and should not be replaced with a 2023 row even where values look similar. For example, its gas Mega Cab 4x4 minimum is 14,390 lb rather than 14,460 lb, and its short-box high-output 4x4 entry is 23,700 lb rather than 23,540 lb. Adjacent-year similarities do not authorize carry-forward.

Source method and visual verification

The official RAM-hosted PDF was downloaded on 14 September 2026. Its SHA-256 begins 42c0f7f0, and the 5,712,938-byte page was extracted with layout preservation, rendered at 100 dpi to a 2600-by-3600 image and visually reviewed in full. Text extraction supplied a cross-check, but the column positions, slash order, NA halves and blank source row were resolved from the rendered matrix.

Verify the individual truck before towing

Confirm the 2024 model year, pickup body, cab, box, 4x2 or 4x4, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission, axle ratio, GVWR and GCWR. Retain the factory build record, photograph certification and loading labels, identify the installed hitch and weigh the intended operating combination. Use the lowest applicable vehicle, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or legal limit.

Canadian use requires Canadian truck evidence

A U.S. RAM-hosted matrix does not establish the original market, certification or usable capacity of an unseen Canadian VIN. A Canadian candidate needs its physical labels, build documentation, installed-equipment limits and applicable provincial or territorial rules. A similar badge, cab or engine is not evidence for transferring a rating.

FAQ: does every high-output Cummins tow 37,090 lb?

No. Published high-output values span 23,700–37,090 lb. The maximum belongs only to the identified Regular Cab 4x2, Aisin, 4.10 and 45,000-lb-GCWR rows. The matrix publishes NA for their 4x4 halves, while other high-output configurations have lower GCWR and trailer values.

FAQ: is NA the same as zero?

No. NA means the matrix does not publish that drivetrain-and-body result. It is not a zero rating, and it is not permission to copy the other half of the slash pair. The fully blank 13,500-lb-GVWR, 4.10, 41,955-lb-GCWR row likewise remains without a trailer value.
