RAM's official 2025 Heavy Duty matrix publishes 30 populated RAM 3500 maximum-trailer values from 14,560 to 36,610 lb. Twenty gas values use the 6.4L HEMI and 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. Ten diesel values use the high-output 6.7L Cummins, ZF Powerline eight-speed and 3.42 axle. The 2025 diesel selector is materially different from 2024: there is no standard-output, 68RFE, Aisin, 3.73 or 4.10 diesel row to carry forward. The header orders every slash pair 4x2/4x4, and the 36,610-lb maximum appears as NA/36,610 for a DRW Regular Cab 4x4. These are configuration estimates, not certification of an unseen Canadian VIN or a loaded truck.
Direct answer: 14,560 to 36,610 lb across 30 values
The lowest populated half-cell is 14,560 lb for a gas SRW Crew Cab with 8-foot bed, 4x4, 3.73 axle, 11,440-lb GVWR and 22,000-lb GCWR. The highest gas value is 18,150 lb for a DRW Regular Cab 4x2 with 4.10 axle and 25,000-lb GCWR.
The 36,610-lb overall maximum belongs only to the high-output Cummins DRW Regular Cab 4x4 row with the ZF eight-speed, 3.42 axle, 14,000-lb GVWR and 45,000-lb GCWR. The paired 4x2 half is NA, so this exact-year headline must not be converted into a 4x2 claim.
| Reference | Exact source branch | Maximum trailer |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Gas SRW Crew Cab 8-foot 4x4 / 3.73 / 11,440 GVWR / 22,000 GCWR | 14,560 lb |
| Gas maximum | DRW Regular Cab 8-foot 4x2 / 4.10 / 14,000 GVWR / 25,000 GCWR | 18,150 lb |
| Diesel SRW maximum | HO Cummins Regular Cab 8-foot 4x4 / 3.42 / 11,830 GVWR / 34,000 GCWR | 26,080 lb |
| Overall maximum | HO Cummins DRW Regular Cab 8-foot 4x4 / 3.42 / 14,000 GVWR / 45,000 GCWR | 36,610 lb |
Read every slash as 4x2 first, 4x4 second
The RAM 3500 header defines each slash pair as 4x2/4x4. A cell such as 15,490/15,100 contains two ratings. The diesel cell 23,950/NA publishes only a 4x2 value, while NA/36,610 publishes only a 4x4 value. NA is an unavailable source position, not zero and not permission to reuse the other half.
Select engine and transmission, SRW or DRW, axle ratio, GVWR, GCWR, cab, box and drive before reading a trailer value. The truck's certification and loading labels still control the individual vehicle.
| Selector | 2025 branches | Do not substitute |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 6.4L HEMI/8HP75 or HO Cummins/ZF eight-speed | A 2024 transmission row |
| Rear wheels | SRW or DRW | A model-wide maximum |
| Drive | 4x2/4x4 in slash order | The populated opposite half |
| Ratings | Exact GVWR and GCWR row | A nearby round number |
All 20 gas RAM 3500 ratings
The gas block uses the 6.4L HEMI V8 and 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. Eleven populated source cells yield 20 ratings because the two Regular Cab 4.10 SRW rows each contain one NA half. No RAM 3500 gas Mega Cab trailer cell is populated in this 2025 matrix.
The SRW rows use 10,750/11,040 or 11,150/11,440-lb GVWR branches. DRW rows retain 14,000 lb. The 3.73 and 4.10 groups use different GCWR values and remain separate.
| Axle | GVWR 4x2/4x4 | GCWR | Body | Max trailer 4x2/4x4 |

All ten high-output Cummins ratings
The diesel block publishes the 6.7L Cummins high-output engine exclusively with a ZF Powerline eight-speed and 3.42 axle. Each of its ten populated source cells supplies only one drivetrain value. Six are SRW and four are DRW.
The apparent gaps are real source boundaries. The 23,950-lb short-box value is 4x2, the adjacent 23,550-lb branch is 4x4 with a different GVWR and GCWR, and the maximum switches to a 4x4 Regular Cab rather than the 2024 4x2 maximum.
| Axle | GVWR | GCWR | Body | Max trailer 4x2/4x4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3.42 | 11,500 | 31,850 | Crew Cab 6-foot-4 SRW | 23,950/NA |
| 3.42 | 11,800 | 31,820 | Crew Cab 6-foot-4 SRW | NA/23,550 |
| 3.42 | 11,830 | 34,000 | Regular Cab 8-foot SRW | NA/26,080 |

| 3.42 | 12,300 | 33,610 | Crew Cab 8-foot SRW | NA/25,180 |
| 3.42 | 14,000 | 42,800 | Crew Cab 8-foot DRW | NA/33,890 |
| 3.42 | 14,000 | 41,950 | Mega Cab 6-foot-4 DRW | NA/32,880 |
| 3.42 | 14,000 | 43,040 | Crew Cab 8-foot DRW | 34,490/NA |
| 3.42 | 14,000 | 45,000 | Regular Cab 8-foot DRW | NA/36,610 |
The 30-value count is auditable
Gas has eleven populated cells containing 20 actual values. High-output diesel has ten populated cells containing ten values because every diesel cell includes one NA half. Empty RAM 3500 positions and all RAM 2500 columns contribute nothing to this count.
| Powertrain | Populated source cells | Actual values | Observed range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.4L HEMI / 8HP75-LCV | 11 | 20 | 14,560–18,150 lb |
| HO 6.7L Cummins / ZF eight-speed | 10 | 10 | 23,550–36,610 lb |
| Total | 21 | 30 | 14,560–36,610 lb |
The 2025 diesel selector is not the 2024 selector
RAM's 2024 matrix publishes standard-output Cummins/68RFE and high-output Cummins/Aisin branches with 3.73 and 4.10 axles. The reviewed 2025 matrix replaces that structure with one high-output Cummins/ZF Powerline eight-speed/3.42 diesel family. This guide therefore does not backfill a standard-output value or copy a 2024 37,090-lb maximum.
Payload and trailer maxima are mutually exclusive
RAM states that Trailer Weight Rating and Payload Rating are mutually exclusive. Tongue or pin weight joins occupants, options, tools, accessories, hitch hardware and cargo on the truck. Do not add maximum trailer and maximum payload as if one configuration can deliver both simultaneously.
SAE J2807 assumptions are not actual trip weight
The matrix identifies SAE J2807 assumptions of 300 lb for passengers, 100 lb for options and specific trailering-equipment allowances. A real truck can carry different people, options, accessories, cargo and hitch hardware, so the published estimate is not a substitute for loading calculations and scale weights.
| Published assumption | Source amount | Owner check |
|---|---|---|
| Passenger weight | 300 lb | Count actual occupants |
| Options weight | 100 lb | Identify installed equipment |
| Conventional equipment | 75 lb | Verify receiver and hardware |
| Gooseneck equipment | 70 lb | Verify installed system |
| Fifth-wheel equipment | 250 lb | Verify hitch, rails and pin load |
One trailer column does not create method-specific ratings
RAM requires a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch for trailers over 18,000 lb and publishes a maximum tongue weight of 1,800 lb for the Class V receiver. The matrix still has one maximum-trailer column rather than separate conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings. No absent method-specific value is inferred.
GVWR, GCWR and GAWR remain separate limits
GVWR constrains the truck, GCWR constrains the loaded truck-and-trailer combination, and GAWR constrains each axle. A maximum-trailer cell overrides none of them, nor the tires, hitch, trailer or applicable law. The lowest applicable limit controls after the combination is configured and loaded.
No box-off or chassis-cab result is present
The reviewed matrix labels factory pickup body columns for Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. It does not publish a separate box-off matrix. No pickup-box-delete, chassis-cab, aftermarket-body or completion-weight rating is calculated or imported into this guide.
Source method and visual verification
The official RAM-hosted PDF was downloaded on 14 September 2026. Its SHA-256 begins 2b431926, and the 2,983,570-byte single page was layout-extracted, rendered at 100 dpi to 2600 by 3600 pixels, cropped for close column inspection and visually reviewed in full. The rendered matrix—not extraction order alone—resolved cab placement, slash order and NA halves.
Verify the individual truck before towing
Confirm the 2025 model year, pickup body, cab, box, drive, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission, axle ratio, GVWR and GCWR. Retain the build record, photograph certification and loading labels, identify the installed hitch and weigh the intended operating combination. Use the lowest applicable truck, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or legal limit.
Canadian use requires Canadian truck evidence
This U.S. RAM-hosted matrix does not establish the original market, certification or usable capacity of an unseen Canadian VIN. A Canadian candidate needs its physical labels, build documentation, installed-equipment limits and applicable provincial or territorial rules. A matching badge or engine is not enough to transfer a source cell.
FAQ: is 36,610 lb a universal diesel rating?
No. Published diesel values span 23,550–36,610 lb. The maximum belongs only to the DRW Regular Cab 4x4, high-output Cummins, ZF eight-speed, 3.42 axle, 14,000-lb-GVWR and 45,000-lb-GCWR row. Its 4x2 half is NA, and all other diesel body and rating branches are lower.
FAQ: does NA mean zero?
No. NA marks a drivetrain-and-body position for which this matrix does not publish a rating. It is not a zero and not permission to copy the available slash half. The same rule applies to every blank RAM 3500 cell outside the 21 populated source cells.
