Stellantis' manufacturer-authored 2023 RAM 3500 charts publish 78 configuration-level maximum-trailer values from 14,460 to 37,090 lb. The minimum is a gas SRW Mega Cab 4x4 with the 3.73 axle. The maximum is a high-output Cummins DRW Regular Cab 4x2 with the Aisin transmission, 4.10 axle, 14,000-lb GVWR and 45,000-lb GCWR. Seven body-and-drive groups, SRW and DRW branches, two diesel outputs and multiple GVWR rows make the exact selector more useful than a model-wide headline. The chart values are estimates, not certification of an unseen Canadian VIN or a loaded truck.
Direct answer: 14,460 to 37,090 lb across 78 ratings
The sole 37,090-lb entry is the 4x2 Regular Cab, 8-foot-box, DRW row with the high-output 6.7L Cummins, Aisin six-speed, 4.10 axle, 14,000-lb GVWR and 45,000-lb GCWR. Its 3.73 counterpart is 33,690 lb, while the separate 13,500-lb-GVWR 4.10 branch is 35,250 lb.
The 14,460-lb minimum belongs to the 4x4 Mega Cab gas SRW row with the 6.4L V8, 3.73 axle and 22,000-lb GCWR. The same body and engine with the 4.10 axle is 16,660 lb. Neither endpoint applies to every 2023 RAM 3500.
| Reference | Exact configuration | Published maximum trailer |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 4x4 Mega Cab 6-foot-4 / gas / SRW / 3.73 / 22,000 GCWR | 14,460 lb |
| SRW maximum | 4x2 Regular Cab / HO Cummins / Aisin / 3.73 / 34,650 GCWR | 26,800 lb |
| DRW maximum | 4x2 Regular Cab / HO Cummins / Aisin / 4.10 / 14,000 GVWR / 45,000 GCWR | 37,090 lb |
Follow the complete configuration chain
Start with 4x2 or 4x4, then match cab, box, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission, axle ratio and GVWR before reading GCWR and maximum trailer from the same row. A nearby line may share the engine and cab yet carry a different combined rating.
Stellantis labels payload and maximum-trailer weights as estimates rounded to the nearest 10 lb and says those two maxima are mutually exclusive. Passengers, options, cargo, accessories, hitch equipment and tongue or pin weight consume truck and axle capacity.
Gas and the two Cummins outputs use separate rows
The 6.4L HEMI V8 uses the 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. The standard-output 6.7L Cummins uses the 68RFE six-speed, while the high-output Cummins uses the Aisin six-speed. The two diesels are not interchangeable simply because both displace 6.7 litres.
| Engine branch | Transmission | Published axle pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 6.4L HEMI V8 with MDS | 8HP75-LCV eight-speed | 3.73 and 4.10 |
| 6.7L Cummins standard output | 68RFE six-speed | 3.73 SRW; 3.73 and 4.10 on selected DRW rows |
| 6.7L Cummins high output | Aisin six-speed | 3.73 SRW; 3.73 and 4.10 on selected DRW rows |
All 32 4x2 completed-pickup ratings
Slash pairs preserve the source's 3.73/4.10 order. The long-box Regular and Crew Cab groups include DRW; the short-box Crew Cab is SRW-only. Where the chart publishes 14,000- and 13,500-lb DRW GVWR rows separately, both branches remain visible.
Repeated numbers are still distinct source cells when GVWR or axle changes. They are not collapsed into a universal rating.

The 4x4 chart adds Mega Cab. DRW appears for Regular Cab long box, Mega Cab and Crew Cab long box; the short-box Crew Cab remains SRW-only. No RamBox group appears in either 2023 source.
The Mega Cab high-output 14,000-lb-GVWR DRW rows preserve the unusual 41,600- and 41,955-lb GCWR branches and their 32,560- and 32,920-lb trailer values. Those values are not rounded into one result.

The two charts contain 78 populated trailer cells
The three 4x2 body groups contain 32 ratings and the four 4x4 groups contain 46. Gas contributes 28 cells, standard-output Cummins 25 and high-output Cummins 25. Distinct axle and 13,500- or 14,000-lb GVWR cells remain part of the count even when their published outcomes repeat.
| Drive | Body groups | Gas | Standard-output diesel | High-output diesel | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4x2 | 3 | 12 | 10 | 10 | 32 |
| 4x4 | 4 | 16 | 15 | 15 | 46 |
| Total | 7 | 28 | 25 | 25 | 78 |
The 2023 matrix must not inherit 2022 RamBox rows
The 2022 charts publish separate RamBox groups, but the reviewed 2023 RAM 3500 charts do not. This guide therefore has seven body-and-drive groups and 78 ratings rather than carrying forward the prior year's ten groups and 90 cells.
Other values also changed by small but real amounts. The 4x2 Regular Cab high-output SRW row rises from 26,780 lb in 2022 to 26,800 lb in 2023, while the 4x4 long-box Crew Cab high-output DRW branches change to 32,700/34,010 and 30,660/30,660 lb. Exact-year evidence controls.
GVWR branches remain separate
The source marks 13,500 lb and greater as DRW and lower GVWRs as SRW. Selected long-box diesel DRW configurations publish both 13,500- and 14,000-lb GVWR rows, sometimes with the same trailer result and sometimes with a lower result.
For example, the 4x4 Regular Cab high-output 4.10 branch is 34,650 lb at 14,000 GVWR and 34,300 lb at 13,500 GVWR. The individual certification label determines which row can be considered.
GCWR limits the combined loaded vehicle and trailer
GCWR spans 22,000 to 45,000 lb across the reviewed charts. It constrains the combined loaded truck and trailer, while GVWR and GAWR constrain the truck and axles. A maximum-trailer cell cannot override a lower tire, axle, vehicle, hitch, trailer or legal limit.
| Branch | Observed GVWR pattern | Observed GCWR pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Gas SRW | 10,700–11,400 | 22,000 or 24,200 |
| Standard Cummins SRW | 11,500–12,300 | 28,300 |
| High-output Cummins SRW | 11,500–12,300 | 32,180–34,650 |
| Gas DRW | 14,000 | 22,600 or 25,000 |
| Standard Cummins DRW | 13,500 or 14,000 | 28,300 or 30,300 |
| High-output Cummins DRW | 13,500 or 14,000 | 41,600–45,000 |
One maximum-trailer column is not three hitch matrices
The chart notes require a fifth-wheel hitch over 23,000 lb and a gooseneck hitch over 30,000 lb. They also assign 75 lb of equipment to a conventional hitch, 70 lb to a gooseneck and 250 lb to a fifth wheel. Even so, each source row publishes one maximum-trailer value, not separate conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings. No missing method-specific value is invented.
The box-off completion note does not supply box-off ratings
Both charts include an 80-lb-per-foot body-completion assumption measured from the end of cab to the end of frame, but the populated rows are completed pickups. There is no separate box-off matrix here, so this guide does not calculate or transfer a chassis-cab, pickup-box-delete or aftermarket-body towing result.
Payload and maximum trailer are mutually exclusive
Stellantis says payload and Trailer Weight Rating are mutually exclusive estimates. Tongue or pin weight loads the truck along with occupants, tools, options, cargo, accessories and hitch hardware. Confirm the truck's certification and loading labels, then weigh the intended operating combination.
Source method and provenance limits
The manufacturer-authored four-page 4x2 and five-page 4x4 PDFs were downloaded from RV Safety's public archive on 14 September 2026, hashed, extracted with layout preservation, rendered at 150 dpi and visually reviewed page by page. Their SHA-256 values begin c403db96 and f4fb2ecd, and both identify Stellantis N.A. Body Builder Instruction with a document date of 26 August 2022.
No matching current RAM-hosted copies were located. The evidence carries Stellantis branding, but the reviewed public files are archival mirrors. This provenance limit is stated directly rather than presenting the mirrors as current RAM-hosted pages.
Verify the individual truck before towing
Confirm the 2023 model year, pickup body, cab, box, 4x2 or 4x4, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission, axle ratio and GVWR. Obtain the build record, photograph the certification and loading labels, identify the installed hitch and count every passenger, accessory, cargo item and tongue or pin load. Use the lowest applicable vehicle, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or legal limit.
Canadian use needs truck-specific evidence
These archived charts identify RAM 3500 pickup configurations, but they do not establish the original market or certified rating of an unseen Canadian VIN. A Canadian candidate requires its physical labels, build documentation, installed-equipment limits and applicable provincial or territorial rules. A matching badge or similar configuration is not evidence for transferring a rating.
FAQ: does every high-output Cummins tow 37,090 lb?
No. High-output Cummins values in the 2023 charts run from 23,540 to 37,090 lb. The maximum applies only to the specified 4x2 Regular Cab DRW, 14,000-lb-GVWR, Aisin, 4.10 and 45,000-lb-GCWR row. Cab, box, drivetrain, wheel layout, axle ratio and GVWR can all lower the matching result.
FAQ: can a missing 2023 row be borrowed from 2022?
No. The 2023 sources omit RamBox groups, and their available rows contain several exact-year value changes. Missing configurations stay missing. Repeated numbers remain tied to their own source rows, while adjacent years, GVWR branches and body styles remain independent.
