For the two reviewed F-Series Super Duty model-year anchors, the factory figure is 325 horsepower. Ford's 2004 towing guide pairs it with 560 lb-ft; the archived Ford 2005 launch text pairs the same horsepower with 570 lb-ft. Keep model year, truck family and source beside the number whenever it is quoted.
This is not a universal 6.0L rating. Ford also installed 6.0L engines in different vehicle and commercial applications. The reviewed sources establish that those applications existed, but the official 2007 supplement does not provide their horsepower. Leave an unverified application blank instead of transferring the pickup figure.

Identify the exact Ford application before assigning horsepower
Record the private VIN, model year, build date, F-Series pickup or chassis identity, engine label, transmission, emissions label, controller history and present modifications. A 6.0L badge or seller description cannot distinguish every calibration and application.
Use the exact model-year Ford brochure, towing guide, owner guide and diesel supplement together. When the engine or controller has been replaced, retain both the vehicle's original build record and the installed component evidence. Do not let registration year alone settle a transition or incomplete-vehicle question.
The 2004 Ford towing guide is a bounded 325-hp anchor
Ford's original 2004 RV and Trailer Towing Guide describes the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickup engine lineup and prints 325 hp with 560 lb-ft for the 6.0L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8. The same guide separately mentions 6.0L availability in E-Series and motorhome-chassis contexts, which is why the pickup output must retain its Super Duty scope.
The reviewed guide does not publish peak horsepower speed, a complete output curve or current candidate output on that row. It also cannot establish every mid-year build or replacement calibration. Those fields remain unresolved until the exact vehicle literature supplies them.
The 2005 Ford launch record keeps 325 hp and raises torque
Ford's 2005 Super Duty launch material states 325 horsepower and 570 lb-ft for the 6.0L Power Stroke. It attributes the torque change to revised electronic-engine-control mapping. The corresponding Ford towing guide says 6.0L torque increased to 570 lb-ft, independently preserving the model-year change.
The reviewed 2005 sources do not state a horsepower peak speed on the cited rows. Do not borrow 3,300 rpm from an unsourced chart or treat the ten-pound-foot increase as a horsepower increase. The supported comparison is 325 hp in both reviewed model years, with the cited torque context changing from 560 to 570 lb-ft.
The reviewed 2005 brochure corroborates application and torque, not a new horsepower number
Ford's 2005 Super Duty brochure lists the 6.0L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel in the F-250/F-350 powertrain table and describes 570 lb-ft for the diesel. It also calls the diesel horsepower unsurpassed without printing a numeric horsepower figure in the reviewed rows.
That brochure is useful corroboration for application and torque, but the numeric 325-hp field comes from the archived Ford launch text. Keeping that distinction visible prevents a source from being credited with a specification it does not actually print.
Do not turn two model-year anchors into a complete 2003–2007 chart
The reviewed primary material directly supports 2004 and 2005 Super Duty rows. It does not, in this research pass, provide a complete exact-application output table for every 2003, 2006 and 2007 pickup, chassis cab, Excursion or other vehicle. A familiar internet range is not a substitute for those documents.
If another year matters, retrieve that year's Ford sales or technical literature and record whether the row is pickup, chassis cab, incomplete vehicle or another application. A later service supplement can describe operation without proving that every covered vehicle shares one advertised rating.
E-Series horsepower remains a separate unresolved cell
The 2004 and 2005 Ford towing guides identify 6.0L Power Stroke availability in E-Series contexts. The reviewed 2007 diesel supplement explicitly contains both F-Super Duty and E-Series instructions and marks several procedures by application. That is evidence that the vehicle context matters.
None of those reviewed Ford rows supplies an E-Series horsepower figure. This page therefore does not repeat the common 235-hp claim. An E-Series candidate requires its exact model-year Ford fleet, body-builder or technical specification record before the output cell can be populated.
Medium-duty ratings cannot be imported from Super Duty pickups

Horsepower and torque answer different questions
Horsepower expresses the rate of doing work, while torque is twisting force. Their relationship depends on engine speed, so peak horsepower and peak torque normally occur at different points. A brochure's maxima do not constitute a full curve.

The Ford values are advertised engine ratings. A chassis dyno measures through the transmission, transfer case where fitted, axles, tires and test setup. Correction method, gear selection, temperatures, tire condition and current calibration can materially change a measured result.
Do not subtract a fixed drivetrain-loss percentage from 325 hp to predict a wheel number. If measured output matters, preserve the original dyno sheet, test protocol, environmental correction, hardware list and scan data, then compare like-for-like tests.
Horsepower does not determine towing or payload
Ford's towing guides select trailer limits through the complete truck: model, cab, drive, axle ratio, wheelbase, transmission, hitch type, GCWR and other conditions. Payload is controlled by the actual vehicle's ratings and loaded weight. Engine horsepower is only one input.
Use the door and certification labels, exact guide row, installed hitch and scale weights. Do not attach a 2004 or 2005 family maximum to a candidate merely because its engine is rated at 325 hp. Conventional and fifth-wheel limits must also remain separate.
Horsepower does not predict acceleration or grade performance by itself
Acceleration and hill performance depend on the usable curve, gear ratios, shift strategy, vehicle and trailer mass, tires, grade, altitude, temperature and current condition. A peak number cannot supply a time, speed or passing result.
For a real truck, document the load and route, verify it operates without warnings, and ask a qualified shop to investigate abnormal power delivery. A subjective test drive is useful context but is not a calibrated output measurement.
A low-power complaint is a diagnosis, not a specification dispute
If a candidate feels weak, preserve symptoms, operating state, warning history, scan data and recent work. The 2007 supplement describes systems including primary and secondary fuel filtration, oil-actuated injection and PCM/FICM control, but it does not establish a universal diagnostic threshold.
Do not replace parts or declare a percentage of lost horsepower from a brochure comparison. Ask the inspecting shop to use the correct Ford procedures and tools for the exact build, reproduce the complaint and record measurements before pricing a remedy.
Modifications require a second configuration record
Ford's 2007 diesel supplement warns that aftermarket products which increase horsepower or torque can affect engine longevity, emissions and warranty considerations. That warning does not quantify a gain or condemn every altered truck; it requires the present configuration to be documented.
Record controller and software identification, injectors, turbocharger, fuel and air hardware, exhaust equipment, transmission work, gauges and provider invoices. Keep factory 325-hp evidence, advertised modification claims and measured present output in separate fields. Never add claimed gains to the factory rating.
Reliability, problems and best-year intent remain independent
A horsepower rating does not establish reliability, failure probability, lifespan or the best year. Problems and campaigns require defined populations, failure modes and candidate evidence; a factory output row supplies none of those denominators or outcomes.

Classify each field as confirmed, plausible, conflicting or unresolved. Do not average values. Resolve a conflict to the exact application or retain it as a stop gate before a purchase, modification, towing or repair decision.

Use horsepower appropriately in a used-truck decision
Start with the job, exact payload and trailer requirements, legal configuration and service access. Reject a candidate if its identity, ratings, material condition or emissions configuration cannot be resolved. Then compare maintenance records, inspection findings, corrosion, chassis, transmission, downtime tolerance and ownership budget.
The 325-hp Super Duty rating becomes useful after those gates. It does not make a modified truck correctly configured, a lower-output application unsuitable, or a well-documented candidate reliable. Price verified work and uncertainty without inventing a universal repair allowance or resale premium.
