Ford's manufacturer-authored 2018 towing guide gives the F-350 pickup four configuration-dependent ranges. Populated SRW conventional cells run from 12,000 to 18,000 lb; SRW fifth-wheel/gooseneck cells run from 11,900 to 21,500 lb. DRW conventional cells run from 12,100 to 21,000 lb, while DRW fifth-wheel/gooseneck cells run from 12,000 to 32,000 lb. Matching endpoints do not make this a copy of 2017: the 2018 DRW diesel rows changed materially, and its combined DRW table does not publish the earlier Pickup Box Delete rows. The 21,500- and 32,000-lb endpoints are gooseneck-specific, with lower 18,000-lb SRW and 27,500-lb DRW fifth-wheel caps on marked rows. The adjacent 32,500- and 34,000-lb values are F-450 cells and are excluded.
Direct answer: 2018 F-350 capacity depends on four rating families
Choose SRW or DRW before reading a number, then choose conventional or bed-mounted hitching. The maximum in each family belongs to a particular engine, axle ratio, GCWR, cab, drivetrain, wheelbase, box and equipment state. A broad Super Duty headline is not an F-350 selector row.
Fifth-wheel and gooseneck figures share Ford tables but do not always share a ceiling. A gooseneck marker identifies a gooseneck rating; the lower fifth-wheel hitch cap still controls fifth-wheel use before payload, rear GAWR, GVWR, tires, receiver, hitch hardware and loaded-combination limits are checked.
| 2018 F-350 pickup branch | Populated range | Upper-end boundary |
|---|---|---|
| SRW conventional | 12,000-18,000 lb | 18,000 in selected long-box diesel cells |
| SRW fifth-wheel/gooseneck | 11,900-21,500 lb | 21,500 is gooseneck; marked-row fifth-wheel cap is 18,000 |
| DRW conventional | 12,100-21,000 lb | 21,000 is the highest distributing diesel value |
| DRW fifth-wheel/gooseneck | 12,000-32,000 lb | 32,000 is gooseneck; marked-row fifth-wheel cap is 27,500 |
Identify the SRW or DRW body column before the rating row
The SRW tables contain ten body columns: Regular Cab 4x2 and 4x4 at 142 inches; SuperCab 4x2 and 4x4 with either a 148-inch short-box or 164-inch long-box layout; and Crew Cab 4x2 and 4x4 with a 160-inch short box or 176-inch long box.
The DRW F-350 table contains six long-box columns: Regular Cab at 142 inches, SuperCab at 164 inches and Crew Cab at 176 inches, each in 4x2 and 4x4. Two F-450 Crew Cab columns follow them on the same printed page. Column adjacency is not model identity.
| Wheel arrangement | Cab / drive / wheelbase branches | Box coverage |
|---|---|---|
| SRW Regular Cab | 4x2 / 4x4; 142-in WB | 8-ft box |
| SRW SuperCab | 4x2 / 4x4; 148- or 164-in WB | 6.75- or 8-ft box |
| SRW Crew Cab | 4x2 / 4x4; 160- or 176-in WB | 6.75- or 8-ft box |
| DRW F-350 | Regular 142; SuperCab 164; Crew 176; each 4x2 / 4x4 | 8-ft box |
| Adjacent F-450 | Crew Cab 4x2 / 4x4; 176-in WB | Excluded from F-350 answers |
SRW conventional diesel top row retains both receiver modes
Ford repeats the 28,700-lb GCWR row under the 3.31 and 3.55 diesel axle headings. The row below preserves weight-carrying first and weight-distributing second for all ten SRW positions. It is not permission to use the distributing number without compatible, correctly installed weight-distributing equipment.
Lower diesel GCWR rows populate only their matching body positions, including optional 10,000-lb GVWR Package 68D branches. Gas remains separate: the 6.2L 3.73 row uses 19,500-lb GCWR and the 4.30 row uses 23,000-lb GCWR. A dash remains a dash rather than a value borrowed from another row.
| 28,700-lb GCWR SRW diesel configuration | Weight carrying | Weight distributing |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Cab 4x2 / 142 / 8-ft | 14,000 | 15,000 |
| Regular Cab 4x4 / 142 / 8-ft | 14,000 | 15,000 |
| SuperCab 4x2 / 148 / 6.75-ft | 14,000 | 15,000 |
| SuperCab 4x2 / 164 / 8-ft | 15,000 | 15,000 |
| SuperCab 4x4 / 148 / 6.75-ft | 14,000 | 15,000 |
| SuperCab 4x4 / 164 / 8-ft | 15,000 | 15,000 |
| Crew Cab 4x2 / 160 / 6.75-ft | 15,000 with tire notes | 15,000 with tire notes |
| Crew Cab 4x2 / 176 / 8-ft | 18,000 with tire notes | 18,000 with tire notes |
| Crew Cab 4x4 / 160 / 6.75-ft | 15,000 with tire notes | 15,000 with tire notes |
| Crew Cab 4x4 / 176 / 8-ft | 18,000 with tire notes | 18,000 with tire notes |
SRW bed-mounted values keep the gooseneck marker and fifth-wheel cap
At 28,700 lb GCWR, Ford publishes 20,400-21,500-lb SRW bed-mounted values, with tire-dependent alternatives in several positions. Regular Cab 4x2 carries the 21,500-lb upper endpoint; Crew Cab 4x4 long box is 20,400 lb. These are exact table cells, not a best-to-worst cab ranking.
The high cells carry Ford's gooseneck marker. For fifth-wheel use, Ford limits marked SRW rows to the 18,000-lb fifth-wheel hitch rating. The lower cap must be applied even when the trailer, axle, GCWR and gooseneck number appear to leave more room.
| 28,700-lb GCWR SRW position | Published bed-mounted value | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Cab 4x2 / 4x4 | 21,500 / 21,100 lb | Gooseneck marked; tire alternatives remain attached |
| SuperCab 4x2 short / long | 21,300 / 21,100 lb | Short- and long-box columns stay separate |
| SuperCab 4x4 short / long | 20,900 / 20,700 lb | Tire notes remain configuration-specific |
| Crew Cab 4x2 short / long | 21,000 / 20,800 lb | Gooseneck and tire markers preserved |
| Crew Cab 4x4 short / long | 20,600 / 20,400 lb | Gooseneck and tire markers preserved |
| Marked-row fifth-wheel use | 18,000-lb hitch cap | Lower than every displayed high gooseneck cell |
DRW conventional matrix reaches 21,000 lb only in exact diesel cells
The six F-350 DRW columns preserve separate carrying and distributing values. Gas rows show the same number in both receiver modes. The diesel 3.55/36,000-GCWR and 4.10/40,000-GCWR rows display the same F-350 conventional values, but axle and GCWR identity still matter to the completed combination.
Most diesel carrying cells remain 18,000 or 19,000 lb. The Crew Cab 4x4 cell is 21,000 lb in both receiver modes, while selected other positions reach 21,000 lb only with distributing equipment. Never substitute the highest receiver-mode result for the installed hitch label.

Complete 2018 F-350 DRW bed-mounted matrix
The values below remain in Regular Cab 4x2, Regular Cab 4x4, SuperCab 4x2, SuperCab 4x4, Crew Cab 4x2 and Crew Cab 4x4 order. Unlike the reviewed 2017 page, Ford's 2018 combined DRW pickup table does not publish separate Pickup Box Delete rows. That absence is preserved instead of backfilled.
Ford marks the high diesel values as gooseneck ratings and caps fifth-wheel use at 27,500 lb. The 27,300-lb 3.55 Crew Cab 4x4 cell is not marked gooseneck and remains unlabelled as such. The two adjacent F-450 cells reach 32,500 and 34,000 lb; neither belongs in the F-350 result.

Why the 2018 DRW table cannot be copied from 2017
The F-350 family endpoints look familiar, but the selector rows are not interchangeable. For 2018, the diesel 3.55 bed-mounted row is 27,300-28,400 lb and the 4.10 row is 31,300-32,000 lb. Those values were transcribed from the 2018 page itself.
The 2018 source also omits the separate Pickup Box Delete rows visible in the reviewed 2017 guide. An omitted row is not permission to reuse prior-year data. A 2018 altered or box-delete truck therefore needs its own build, final-stage label and upfitter evidence.
Weight carrying and weight distributing are equipment states
Conventional towing tables distinguish a receiver used in weight-carrying mode from a compatible weight-distributing system. Where the distributing cell is higher, the increase depends on the correct hitch, shank, spring bars, coupler and setup; the truck's receiver label must support it.
Treat every component as an independent ceiling. The lowest truck, receiver, hitch, coupler, ball, tire, wheel, axle or legal limit wins. A distributing table cell does not raise payload, rear GAWR, GVWR or GCWR.
Package 68D and tire footnotes remain exact-row selectors
Ford applies the optional 10,000-lb GVWR Package, code 68D, to selected lower-GCWR SRW diesel branches. It is not attached to every diesel F-350 and cannot be inferred from the model badge. Verify the build record and labels before using one of those rows.
The SRW tables also attach 17-, 18- and 20-inch tire notes to particular cells. Wheel diameter alone is insufficient: confirm the tire size, load index, inflation specification, wheel rating and original configuration. Replacement tires cannot raise a lower vehicle or hitch rating.
Tongue and king-pin load use the truck's carrying capacity
Ford's guide uses 10% of loaded trailer weight for conventional tongue-load planning and 15% for fifth-wheel king-pin load. The transferred load, hitch hardware, occupants, cargo and options all consume payload and rear-axle capacity.
A 32,000-lb trailer at 15% would imply 4,800 lb of transferred load before people, cargo or hitch hardware. That arithmetic is a screening illustration, not approval. Measure the actual loaded trailer and truck, and stop at any lower payload, rear GAWR, GVWR, tire, hitch or combination limit.
GCWR is not the trailer-weight rating
GCWR limits the loaded truck and trailer together. It is not the trailer number, and subtracting a generic catalogue curb weight can overstate capacity because the working truck carries fuel, people, options, tools, cargo and hitch equipment.
Select the Ford row with the exact engine, axle and body first. Then weigh the loaded combination and both truck axles. Verify GVWR, front and rear GAWR, tire and wheel ratings, receiver and hitch ratings separately.
Tailgate height is a reference, not a clearance guarantee
Ford lists nominal maximum tailgate heights of 59.6 inches for F-350 SRW and 58.7 inches for F-350 DRW, measured from the ground to the closed tailgate's top. The source warns that other configurations may vary.
Neither figure proves clearance between the trailer and cab, tailgate or box rails. Measure the actual loaded truck and trailer through the intended articulation range. Sliding or offset hardware must be approved for the combination and does not alter Ford's vehicle ratings.
How to identify the correct 2018 selector row
Confirm that the vehicle is a 2018 F-350 pickup, then record SRW or DRW, 6.2L gas or 6.7L diesel, axle ratio, cab, 4x2 or 4x4, wheelbase, box and hitch method. For conventional towing, also identify carrying or distributing mode. Preserve the GCWR row and every package, tire and hitch footnote.
Use VIN-linked build evidence, the Safety Compliance Certification Label, tire label, axle code and receiver or in-bed hitch labels. Record alterations and measure loaded axle and combination weights. If any selector remains unresolved, capacity remains unresolved.
Canadian candidates need physical and market-specific evidence
The matrix is Ford-authored 2018 U.S.-market evidence. It does not prove that every configuration and package was sold identically in Canada or certify an unseen Canadian VIN. Ford Canada's current towing page is a resource handoff, not a substitute 2018 rating table.
Resolve the Canadian truck's VIN-linked build record, certification and tire labels, axle code, hitch label, recall status and alteration history. If market documents or labels conflict with a catalogue row, resolve that conflict before towing rather than choosing the larger number.
Gas and diesel paper ratings are only one part of the choice
Selected 6.7L diesel rows reach higher published limits, but the engine also changes truck mass, payload margin, maintenance, purchase cost and available axle/equipment combinations. Peak torque and a family maximum do not establish remaining pin-load capacity.
Compare exact SRW or DRW trucks against the same loaded trailer, occupants, cargo, hitch and route. Inspect condition and maintenance independently. This data guide does not rank reliability, predict remaining life or declare one fuel type universally better.
The 34,000-lb headline belongs outside the F-350 table columns
Ford's broader 2018 Super Duty material promotes up to 34,000 lb of gooseneck towing. On the combined DRW selector page, 34,000 lb is in the F-450 Crew Cab 4x2 column at 42,800-lb GCWR. The adjacent 32,500-lb value is another F-450 branch.
The highest reviewed F-350 DRW cell remains 32,000 lb, and it is gooseneck-specific. Model-family marketing and an adjacent table cell cannot override the F-350 column identity or the 27,500-lb fifth-wheel cap.
Source and claim limits
The figures come from Ford's manufacturer-authored 2018 RV & Trailer Towing Guide, independently reviewed on printed pages 24-26 on 13 September 2026. Ford's official 2018 Super Duty owner's manual supplies exact-year operating and load-limit context; it does not replace the configuration matrices.
No value transfers to 2017, 2019, another F-Series model, chassis cab, altered truck or unmatched hitch. The evidence does not establish Canadian VIN status, reliability, failure rates, condition, inventory, sellers, dealer counts, prices, financing or offers.
2018 F-350 towing questions and conclusion
What is the maximum 2018 F-350 towing capacity? The reviewed pickup tables show 18,000 lb conventional, 21,500 lb SRW gooseneck and 32,000 lb DRW gooseneck in different exact configurations. Is fifth-wheel capacity also 32,000 lb? No. Ford limits marked DRW gooseneck rows to a 27,500-lb fifth-wheel hitch rating and marked SRW rows to 18,000 lb.
Does every 2018 diesel dually tow 32,000 lb? No. The DRW diesel bed-mounted rows range from 27,300 to 32,000 lb, with cab, drive, axle and GCWR differences. Begin with the correct six-column F-350 matrix, exclude F-450, then verify labels, hitch, payload, axles and loaded weights.
