Ford F-350 towing capacity depends first on whether the pickup is single-rear-wheel or dual-rear-wheel, then on engine, axle, cab, box, drivetrain, tires, GCWR, hitch type, equipment and the truck's available payload. In Ford's U.S. 2026 selector, properly equipped diesel F-350 pickups reach 25,000 lb conventional, 27,600 lb gooseneck in SRW form, and 28,000 lb conventional or 40,000 lb gooseneck in DRW form. Those four maxima belong to different configurations and cannot be combined into one truck. This guide keeps SRW, DRW, conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck evidence separate, transcribes bounded 2025–2026 figures, and explains how to verify an individual Canadian truck. Exact answer from the current Ford selector
The 2026 Ford guide publishes a 25,000-lb maximum conventional trailer rating for a properly equipped F-350 SRW and a 28,000-lb maximum for an F-350 DRW. Its in-bed tables reach 27,600 lb gooseneck for SRW and 40,000 lb gooseneck for DRW. The 40,000-lb result is an especially narrow case: a high-output 6.7L diesel DRW Regular Cab 4x4 with 4.30 axle, 48,000-lb GCWR and the 40K Gooseneck Tow Package.
Do not read those values as a progression available on every diesel F-350. The SRW conventional table contains diesel entries from 18,200 to 25,000 lb when the separately footnoted Tremor row is included. The DRW conventional table includes an 18,200-lb package-specific entry as well as 24,800–28,000-lb diesel cells. Hitch type, rear-wheel arrangement and exact row must remain visible with every number.
2026 diesel range summary
These are extrema from Ford's published 2026 diesel pickup rows, not a continuous range and not a statement that every intermediate value or equipment combination exists. Gas-engine rows are outside this compact diesel summary. The selector and actual truck documentation remain controlling.

Selected 2026 F-350 SRW conventional rows
The original matrix also contains short-box SuperCab and Crew Cab columns, 4x2 and 4x4 variants, and tire-dependent split values. This excerpt is a guide-reading aid, not a replacement table. A dealer description such as “2026 diesel F-350” does not identify the correct column.
| Engine / axle / GCWR | Regular Cab 4x2, 8-ft box | Regular Cab 4x4, 8-ft box | SuperCab 4x4, 8-ft box | Crew Cab 4x4, 8-ft box |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 6.7L / 3.31 / 31,000 lb | 20,000 lb | 20,000 lb | 23,200 or 23,100 lb by tire footnote | 22,900 or 22,800 lb by tire footnote |
| High-output 6.7L / 3.31 / 31,800 lb | 20,000 lb | 20,000 lb | 23,500 or 23,900 lb by tire footnote | 23,600 lb in the applicable published cell |
| High-output 6.7L / 3.55 / 35,200 lb | 20,000 lb | 20,000 lb | 24,000 lb in the applicable published cell | Up to 25,000 lb by tire footnote |
Selected 2026 F-350 DRW diesel rows
Paired in-bed values are fifth-wheel first and gooseneck second. Ford identifies package 535 as the 40K Gooseneck Tow Package in this DRW table; it does not turn every hitch or cab into a 40,000-lb configuration. The receiver-capacity table also warns that a receiver maximum can exceed the selected truck's maximum loaded trailer weight.
| Engine / axle / GCWR | Conventional, Regular Cab | Conventional, Crew Cab | Fifth-wheel / gooseneck example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 6.7L / 3.55 / 40,000 lb | 24,800 lb, with a separately footnoted 18,200-lb cell | 27,000 lb | Regular Cab 4x2: 32,300 / 32,400 lb |
| Standard 6.7L / 4.10 / 43,900 lb | 24,800 lb, with a separately footnoted 18,200-lb cell | 27,000 lb | Regular Cab 4x4: 36,300 / 36,500 lb |
| High-output 6.7L / 4.10 / 45,600 lb | 24,800 lb | 28,000 lb | Regular Cab 4x2: 35,000 / 38,000 lb |
| High-output 6.7L / 4.30 / 48,000 lb, package 535 | 18,200 lb in the package-specific conventional row | Not published as a general 28,000-lb substitute | Regular Cab 4x4: 35,000 / 40,000 lb |
What the 2025 guide confirms—and what changed
Ford's 2025 Super Duty pickup guide publishes the same headline F-350 maxima reviewed above: 25,000 lb SRW conventional, 27,600 lb SRW gooseneck, 28,000 lb DRW conventional and 40,000 lb DRW gooseneck. Matching maxima do not make the complete 2025 and 2026 selectors interchangeable.
The 2025 SRW conventional table has eight cab/drive/wheelbase/box columns. The 2026 chart adds 148.0-inch-wheelbase SuperCab short-box columns and retains separate tire and Tremor footnotes. Use the actual model-year document. Ford marks the compact 2025 guide revised 10 January 2025; the reviewed 2026 full guide carries a 24 November 2025 revision date.
SRW versus DRW is a load-plan decision
An SRW can be the better complete truck when access, width, parking and unloaded use matter and every loaded limit is satisfied. A DRW opens different selector rows and may provide more rear-axle and carrying margin, but the badge and extra tires do not prove that the chosen truck can carry a particular fifth-wheel pin load.
Start with the trailer at its expected loaded weight. Estimate the applicable tongue or pin load only for planning, then confirm with measured weights. Add occupants, hitch hardware, tools, auxiliary equipment and bed cargo. Compare the resulting truck and axle loads with the vehicle's labels, not with the maximum from another rear-wheel configuration.
Towing, payload, GVWR, rear GAWR and GCWR all apply
Ford's guide uses a 10% conventional tongue-load planning value and 15% for fifth-wheel/gooseneck king-pin load. A 40,000-lb gooseneck at that planning percentage would impose 6,000 lb before the hitch, passengers or cargo are counted. That arithmetic does not certify the combination; it shows why payload, rear GAWR, tires, wheels and hitch installation can govern before the headline trailer number.
| Limit | What it answers | Verification point |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum loaded trailer weight | Whether the trailer fits the exact Ford selector row | Correct model-year SRW/DRW, hitch, engine, axle, cab, box and drive cell |
| Payload / carrying capacity | Whether people, cargo, accessories and hitch load fit on the truck | Vehicle-specific carrying-capacity label and actual loaded weights |
| GVWR | Whether the loaded truck itself is within its rating | Safety Compliance Certification Label |
| Rear GAWR | Whether the rear axle load is within its rating | Certification label plus scale result |
| GCWR | Whether loaded truck and loaded trailer fit together | Exact powertrain/configuration row plus measured combination weight |
Canadian truck verification
The numeric selectors reviewed here are Ford U.S. publications. For a Canadian F-350, confirm pickup versus chassis-cab identity, SRW or DRW, model year, engine version, axle, cab, wheelbase, box, drivetrain, tires, packages and installed hitch. Then use the actual Canadian labels and model-year owner information. No VIN was supplied, so this page does not assign an individual truck a Canadian rating.
Ford's towing centre says the general guide is not VIN-specific and provides archived model-year guides plus a VIN-based calculator path. If a VIN result, certification label, hitch documentation and generic selector do not reconcile, pause the towing decision and resolve the configuration with qualified support.
Do not apply 2026 numbers to an older F-350
Ford retains towing guides back to 1996. An older F-350 may have a different engine, transmission, axle, body, wheelbase, hitch and rating method. Use its model-year guide and preserve the publication revision with any extracted figure.
The reviewed 2023 and 2024 guides have their own F-350 tables. This page does not infer a historical 1999–2026 range or fill unavailable cells from a nearby year. A used truck with an upfit, replacement axle, changed tires or unclear build record needs additional identity and completed-vehicle work rather than a newer brochure number.
Ford F-350 towing-capacity questions
What is the maximum 2026 F-350 SRW towing capacity? Ford's selector reaches 25,000 lb conventional and 27,600 lb gooseneck in separate properly equipped SRW configurations.
What is the maximum 2026 F-350 DRW towing capacity? The DRW table reaches 28,000 lb conventional and 40,000 lb gooseneck, but the gooseneck maximum requires the exact high-output diesel, axle, cab, drive, GCWR and package row.
Can I use the 40,000-lb figure for a fifth-wheel? No. The 40,000-lb cell is gooseneck; the reviewed DRW fifth-wheel diesel maximum is 35,000 lb.
Does an F-350 dually automatically have more towing capacity than every SRW? No. The applicable result depends on the exact selector row, hitch type and all truck and hitch limits. Some package-specific DRW conventional entries are lower than the SRW maximum.
Why can two identical-looking F-350s differ? Axle ratio, GCWR, engine output, tires, drivetrain, cab, wheelbase, box, equipment and payload can change the applicable result.
Can this guide confirm my Canadian truck? No. It supplies bounded generic source data. Verify the individual truck's Canadian labels, documentation, installed equipment and loaded weights.
Evidence note: manufacturer documents establish the specific facts and applications cited. Buying workflows and cost scenarios are DieselTrucks.ca editorial guidance. These pages do not publish measured failure rates or confirm the condition, recall status or capacity of a particular truck.
