The 2025 RAM 2500 diesel is a significant powertrain change, not simply another year of the 370-hp Cummins and 68RFE combination. Its higher-output engine and new eight-speed transmission change the specifications, service questions and driving behaviour a buyer needs to verify. Reviewed on 15 September 2026, this guide separates those documented changes from six current U.S. campaign entries. Neither a new design nor a recall count establishes a failure rate, dependable lifespan or Canadian VIN clearance. The useful verdict is conditional on the actual truck's equipment, completed remedies, service records and independent inspection.
The 2025 diesel changes the baseline
RAM's exact-year sheet lists the 6.7L High-Output Cummins at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft with the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic; the chart identifies the transmission as ZF PowerLine. Its diesel towing rows use a 3.42 axle. Do not copy the 2024 RAM 2500's 370-hp, 850-lb-ft, 68RFE and 3.73-axle assumptions into this year.
The gas alternative remains a separate application: the 2025 sheet lists the 6.4L HEMI at 405 hp and 429 lb-ft with the 8HP75-LCV eight-speed. That is not the preceding year's 410-hp gas entry, and the shared phrase 'eight-speed automatic' does not make gas and diesel service requirements identical.
Cummins' 7 January 2025 launch describes a revised fuel system with a new pump and top-feed injectors, revised turbocharging and airflow management, helical valvetrain gears and glow-plug cold-start management. It also identifies top-side filter access as a serviceability change. These are manufacturer-described engineering changes, not measured proof that failures became less frequent.
That release distinguishes the pickup's 430-hp/1,075-lb-ft output from the 360-hp/800-lb-ft chassis-cab application. Keep the pickup branch for a RAM 2500 assessment. RAM also describes load-dependent first- or second-gear starts: a second-gear launch alone is not enough to diagnose a transmission fault, although harsh engagement, warnings or inconsistent operation still require investigation.
A fluid invoice must identify the engine application
The manufacturer-authored 2025 owner manual, recovered from an external archive, separates automatic-transmission fluids on printed pages 387–388. The gas 6.4L/8HP75 entry specifies Mopar ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF or equivalent. The diesel 6.7L/TorqueFlite eight-speed entry specifies Mopar ATF 818 or equivalent. Do not translate 'eight-speed service' on an invoice into evidence that the correct fluid was used.
Ask for the product name, specification, quantity, operation performed and VIN on the work order. If the invoice uses a generic shop-fluid description, have the servicing facility document its compatibility with the exact application. The manual's 'or equivalent' wording is not a finding that every multi-vehicle fluid is interchangeable.

Trailer brakes and occupant restraints require separate attention
03D / 26V059000 describes an improperly designed trailer tow module: trailer lights may fail to illuminate and trailer brakes may fail. The stated remedy is to replace the trailer tow module. A radio update, functioning truck brake lamps or a receipt for trailer brake pads does not document that hardware replacement. Resolve applicable safety actions and have the towing system checked before using a trailer.
C3C / 25V882000 concerns occupant restraint controller software that may prevent the driver's airbag and/or seat-belt pretensioner from deploying and may disable electronic stability control. Its published remedy is an occupant-restraint-controller software update. Do not relabel this as the preceding years' steering-column weld campaign or assume an ABS-related invoice completed it.
43D / 26V288000 concerns PCM software that may allow vehicle speed to exceed the tire speed rating; the remedy is a PCM software update. It is not a trailer tire-pressure sensor recall. A tire change or sensor pairing record alone cannot establish completion of that calibration action.
These six query entries are research leads for the exact model year, not six defects on every truck. The query does not certify Canadian eligibility or completion. Check Mopar Canada's VIN lookup and obtain a current manufacturer/dealer response; absence of an older heater-relay or fuel-pump entry here is not universal safety clearance.
New axle and GVWR branches change the towing comparison

Higher engine output does not remove load limits
The diesel Regular Cab 4x2 positions are marked unavailable in this sheet; they cannot be filled from the 4x4 row or a 2024 chart. The examples also show why a 20,000-lb headline is insufficient: the Mega Cab's selected values remain much lower, and the short-bed Crew Cab 4x4 changes substantially across its GVWR branches.
Confirm the candidate's actual labels, equipment and loaded weights. Passengers, cargo, hitch hardware and tongue or pin weight consume available payload, while GVWR, GCWR, axle, tire and hitch limits all remain relevant.
