A 2020 RAM 2500 diesel needs more than a generic 'transmission recall completed' entry in its history. The current primary records contain two different transmission actions with similar pressure-and-heat descriptions but different hardware remedies. The high-pressure fuel-pump campaign is a third, separate concern. This guide, reviewed on 15 September 2026, combines that exact-year evidence with RAM's 2020 configuration chart and full owner manual. It does not turn a campaign count into a reliability ranking or determine an unseen Canadian VIN's status.
Identify the powertrain and the model-year chart first
The 2020 chart retains distinct 6.4L HEMI/8HP75-LCV eight-speed gasoline and 6.7L Cummins/68RFE six-speed diesel pairings. A combined RAM 2500/3500 owner manual also covers other transmissions and applications; the presence of an Aisin service row in that book does not make an Aisin interval appropriate for this 2500.
Do not carry forward the previous model year's headline towing number. RAM's 3 December 2019 chart for the 2020 model publishes 19,680 lb for the specified diesel Regular Cab configuration, rather than the 2019 chart's 19,780 lb. The source tables also distinguish general and Canada-only rows. Those printed changes matter to a buying decision without proving any improvement or decline in mechanical durability.
W03 and ZA3 have similar symptoms but different remedies
The fresh 2020 RAM 2500 query includes both records below. Neither a dipstick replacement nor a control-module update alone demonstrates completion of every applicable action. Ask for the campaign number, parts and programming on each work order, then reconcile current VIN eligibility through the manufacturer.

Keep the fuel-pump remedy separate from routine maintenance
Y78 / 21V880000 concerns selected 2019–2020 Cummins 6.7L applications whose high-pressure fuel pump may fail and cause a sudden stall without warning. The published remedy combines HPFP replacement, PCM software and inspection or replacement of other fuel-system components as necessary. A fuel-filter invoice does not establish that this campaign was completed.
The campaign's older phased notification dates are not evidence that the truck being sold received the repair. Obtain its completed work order and current manufacturer status. A pump-family nickname or an aftermarket conversion is not a substitute for identifying the actual repair, and this review supplies no unsupported component failure rate or repair-price estimate.
The transmission records warn about leaking fluid and fire risk; the pump record addresses stalling. Investigate leaks, stalling and warning messages before any road test, with qualified assistance and the manufacturer's current candidate-specific restrictions. These U.S. records describe affected populations, not automatic Canadian coverage or permission to drive a particular truck.
The other seven records are not interchangeable fixes
The exact-model-year query returned ten records, not a list copied from 2019. W70 / 20V622000 addresses driver-side mirror glass separating from its backing plate and specifies replacement glass. Z08 / 22V035000 instead concerns loose windshield-wiper arms and tightening their nuts. W30–W37 / 20V191000 addresses a lingering rear-camera image after Reverse on selected 8.4- or 12-inch radio displays; its remedy is software.
Z20 / 22V140000 covers ABS-module software that may prevent the electronic-stability-control malfunction indicator from illuminating. It does not document a physical brake-caliper replacement. ZB8 / 22V904000 concerns tailgate-striker alignment; W24/W44 / 20V207000 concerns the support brace of an accessory bed step.
The 25V010000 side-curtain inflator record specifies replacement of one or both curtains as necessary. Match the candidate's restraint equipment and campaign identifiers to actual work. Query absence is not a guarantee that no other VIN-specific action exists, and ten returned records are not ten failures experienced by each owner.
2020 Canadian load rows must remain distinct
These selected diesel/68RFE/3.73-axle examples are directly reconciled against the 2020 chart. All figures are pounds; trailer and payload values are estimates under manufacturer assumptions, not measurements of today's optioned truck.

Do not combine maximum trailer and maximum payload
RAM explicitly makes the two maxima mutually exclusive and rounds estimated values to the nearest 10 lb. The chart's assumptions include 300 lb of passengers, 100 lb of options and hitch equipment; fifth-wheel and gooseneck calculations use 15-percent pin loading. That percentage is a rating assumption, not a promise about the trailer you intend to load.
The matching Regular Cab trailer figures do not erase the 100-lb difference in estimated payload. Mega Cab Canada-only trailer rows differ by 1,000 lb from their corresponding general rows. Use the correct source branch, certification labels, installed hitch rating and loaded scale weights. Occupants, cargo and hitch hardware consume capacity before trailer pin weight is added.
Never exceed GAWR, GVWR or GCWR. This small comparison is not a replacement for the complete towing guide, a trailer-brake check or confirmation of an upfit. No Canadian VIN, remaining payload margin or current legal operating status is certified here.
The exact diesel maintenance table improves the records review
The 2020 owner manual's Cummins pages specify engine oil and filter service no later than 15,000 miles/24,000 km, 12 months or 500 hours, whichever comes first, and sooner if the oil-change indicator requires it. Mileage alone is therefore inadequate for an idling or low-mileage truck. The separately described B20-capable chassis-cab exception is not automatically a RAM 2500 pickup interval.
The diesel maintenance matrix schedules both the engine-mounted and chassis-mounted fuel-filter elements at the 15,000-mile/24,000-km/12-month columns and their repeats. Request evidence for both locations. This scheduled work and the Y78 pump remedy answer different questions and should appear separately in the history.
For a 68RFE used for police, fleet or frequent trailer towing, the table marks transmission fluid and filter service at 60,000 miles/96,000 km/48 months and again at 120,000 miles/192,000 km/96 months. It separately lists Aisin-only rows, which must not be transferred. Match operating duty and the complete applicable schedule with a qualified service provider.
This review visually checks the relevant oil, fuel-filter and transmission entries, not every procedure in the 568-page manual. More frequent or additional work may be necessary in severe conditions. A stamped service booklet without dates, mileage, hours and itemized work cannot resolve those limits.
A useful verdict depends on the candidate's evidence
A defensible 2020 purchase assessment asks whether both applicable transmission actions, the fuel-pump remedy and the other relevant safety work are traceable. It also asks whether diesel maintenance fits elapsed time and operating hours, and whether the correct Canada-only configuration supports the intended load.
After safety concerns are resolved, arrange an independent inspection of cold starting, fluid leaks, transmission behaviour, warning messages, suspension and tire wear, and any modifications. Keep unresolved findings explicit.
