The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD deserves a fresh assessment rather than a renamed 2023 checklist. GMC's exact-year sheet changes the Duramax output, shows a ten-speed automatic with either engine, and separates new Max Trailering configurations. A manufacturer emission recall also identifies injector-flow programming as a possible cause of rough idle or higher fuel consumption on certain L5P trucks. This guide connects those changes to campaign records and inspection evidence, without turning a recall list into a reliability ranking.

The 2024 powertrain is not the previous year's specification

GMC lists the 2024 6.6L Duramax at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. The 6.6L gas engine remains a separate 401-hp/464-lb-ft pairing. The specification table now lists the Allison ten-speed 10L1000 with both engines, with a 3.42 diesel final drive and 3.73 gas final drive.

That distinction matters when reviewing invoices or a seller's description. A gas 2024 truck should not be described using the 2023 gas six-speed specification, while the new diesel output must not be retroactively assigned to older trucks. Confirm the engine, build information and installed transmission before applying a service document.

Higher published output is a specification change, not proof of either improved durability or increased failure risk. The buying question remains whether this particular truck has unresolved warnings, applicable campaigns or a towing history inconsistent with its real configuration.

Injector-flow programming is a distinct 2024 emission recall

GM's September 2023 revision N232415860-01 applies to certain 2024 Sierra and Silverado 2500HD/3500HD trucks with the L5P diesel. It describes an ECM that may not correctly compensate for normal variation in injector flow characteristics, potentially causing rough idle or increased fuel consumption.

The specified action is fuel-injector flow-rate programming with a diagnostic scan tool; the bulletin states that no parts are required. That is different from replacing injectors or repairing an electrical connector. A receipt for an unrelated software update is not enough to establish that this operation was completed.

The document expressly addresses involved dealer-stock vehicles in the U.S. and Canada and requires checking GM's vehicle-history system for involvement. This establishes the programme's stated geography, not the status of an unseen Canadian VIN. Ask the dealer to reconcile the current campaign record and completed operation. Do not attempt to enter guessed injector identifiers or reproduce workshop programming from an online summary.

Do not treat a tire-label correction as a generic pressure recommendation

The 26V530 query record is configuration-specific. It does not say that every factory 20-inch wheel or every Sierra HD shares the issue. The concern is an incorrect rear-pressure label on the stated enhanced-towing/accessory-wheel combination, which can leave tires underinflated without the expected low-pressure warning.

As of the 15 September 2026 review, the record says owner letters are expected on 28 September 2026; that is a scheduled date, not a completed mailing. It also states that affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA's site on 13 August 2026. These dates do not establish Canadian eligibility.

Ask the dealer to verify the actual accessory package, label and calibration together. Do not invent a replacement pressure from another model's label or assume that a dashboard without a tire warning proves correct inflation. Max Trailering and trim footnotes change the load comparison

These selected 2024 diesel rows are in pounds. Max Trailering is a separate package branch, not a rating unlocked by choosing a hitch. GMC's package footnote requires the available integrated trailer brake controller, 18- or 20-inch wheels and tires, and a spray-on bed liner. Match the actual build and its labels before using a row.

A row maximum is not automatically the Denali or AT4 rating

For the standard-branch Crew Cab 4WD standard-bed row, GMC's in-bed footnote reduces the maximum to 17,300 lb for AT4, 17,600 lb for Denali and 17,200 lb for Denali Ultimate. The AT4 conventional limit is 12,000 lb when equipped with the specified LT275/70R18 mud-terrain tires. Do not apply that tire-specific conventional limit to every AT4 configuration.

The Max Trailering Crew Cab 4WD standard-bed in-bed footnote separately lists 20,800 lb for AT4, 19,900 lb for Denali and 19,300 lb for Denali Ultimate. Those are not the standard-branch footnotes and cannot be mixed with its GVWR or GCWR.

Separate normal afterblow from an unresolved electrical complaint

Printed page 196 of the 2024 HD manual describes an optional Afterblow feature. Under certain conditions, its climate-control fan may remain on or cycle after the vehicle is switched off and locked. That particular behaviour is described as normal; a fan sound alone therefore does not establish a failed relay or battery-drain fault.

The narrow explanation is not a diagnosis for every noise or discharged battery. Record where the sound comes from, the circumstances and any warning or starting problem, then have persistent abnormal operation assessed. Do not disconnect systems merely to silence a sound before the buying inspection.

For airflow complaints, the same page highlights blocked windshield-base air inlets, cabin-filter maintenance and obstructions beneath the front seats.
