For a 2022 Ford F-350, a clean appearance and a working dashboard are not enough to establish towing readiness. Selected trucks have a front hub-extender recall with an explicit do-not-drive instruction, while trailer braking has an original campaign, an incorrect-repair follow-up and a separate communication-loss action. This guide, reviewed on 15 September 2026, connects those exact-year records to Ford's 2022 equipment and towing literature. It does not turn U.S. campaign results into Canadian VIN confirmation or a year-wide reliability score.
Start with the hub-extender no-drive gate
Ford campaign 23S59 / NHTSA 23V758 concerns selected 2022–2023 Super Duty vehicles with front wheel hub-extender fasteners that may be insufficiently tightened. Wheel and extender separation can cause loss of control and create a road hazard. The current record advises affected owners not to drive until the repair has been performed.
The remedy is not simply an undocumented assurance that the wheels were checked. Dealers inspect the retaining nuts; when they are loose, the described repair replaces the extender, retaining nuts and hub assembly. Obtain a VIN-specific determination and the actual repair record before arranging a road test for an affected truck.
This is a separate campaign from the 2021 guide's 21S26 action. Do not transfer its campaign number, production scope or repair instruction to a 2022 truck. Nor does the model-year search establish that every F-350, or every dually, is included.
2022 equipment: newer connectivity, not the later engine generation
Ford's 2022 brochure retains the 6.2-litre gas V8 at 385 hp and 430 lb-ft, the 7.3-litre gas V8 at 430 hp and 475 lb-ft, and the 6.7-litre Power Stroke at 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft. The later high-output diesel is not a 2022 factory engine option in this evidence.
The equipment matrix lists the F-350's 6.2-litre engine with the ten-speed as standard, contrasting with the F-250's six-speed listing. However, the towing chart still marks specific six-speed exceptions. Preserve the truck's build and chart row instead of treating the standard-equipment statement as proof that every configuration uses the same transmission.
SYNC 4 with a 12-inch touchscreen is new for 2022 and standard on Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited in this U.S. brochure. XLT has SYNC 3 with an eight-inch screen, also optional on XL; base XL uses a 4.2-inch display. Screen size, camera equipment and a software recall are separate facts. A functioning screen alone does not prove that trailer-control or camera campaign work is complete.
Three trailer-control records require three separate answers
22S17 / 22V193 describes an integrated trailer brake-control software error under which an electric or electric-over-hydraulic trailer may not brake. The specified remedy is a module software update. A sales description saying 'factory brake controller' is evidence of neither correct software nor successful trailer braking.
25S18 / 25V132 addresses vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under 22V193. An old invoice for the original campaign therefore does not necessarily close the follow-up. Check the current VIN result and completed repair history rather than counting two entries as two unrelated hardware failures.
26C10 / 26V104 is different: the integrated trailer module may lose communication, potentially affecting trailer brake and turn-signal lights or brake function. Its software remedy may be completed through a dealer or an over-the-air update. Do not assume that the earlier brake-controller repair closes this later communication action.
Before towing, have a qualified professional verify the relevant repairs, connector condition and actual trailer lighting and braking operation. A dashboard indication or an unloaded test drive is not a substitute for checking the connected trailer.
| Record | Specified concern | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| 22S17 / 22V193 | Trailer brake-control software; electric/electric-over-hydraulic braking | Original campaign completion and controller software record |
| 25S18 / 25V132 | Incorrect prior repair under 22V193 | Current follow-up eligibility and completed correction |
| 26C10 / 26V104 | Integrated trailer-module communication loss | Separate dealer or OTA completion and functional trailer check |
Exact 2022 ratings: SRW, dually and hitch type stay separate
The 2022 SRW chart gives a 22,800-lb gooseneck position for a diesel Regular Cab 4x2, 141.6-inch wheelbase, eight-foot box, 3.31 or 3.55 axle and 30,000-lb GCWR. That marked position is limited to a 19,000-lb fifth-wheel hitch rating. The available 10,000-lb-GVWR Package 68D has a separate 19,200-lb entry in the same column.
On the DRW chart, the diesel Regular Cab 4x2, eight-foot box, 4.10 axle and 43,400-lb GCWR reaches 35,750 lb gooseneck, with the marked fifth-wheel limit of 32,500 lb. The comparable Crew Cab 4x4, 176.0-inch-wheelbase branch is 34,700 lb gooseneck; its available 13,000-lb-GVWR Package 68L entry is 28,900 lb. None is a universal F-350 capacity.
For another important distinction, the 4.30/43,500-lb-GCWR diesel DRW Crew Cab 4x2 branch has a 34,600-lb gooseneck entry and 24,200-lb conventional rating. The guide's 37,000-lb position belongs to an F-450, not an F-350. A photo of a dually does not identify which chart applies.
Use these as U.S. manufacturer configuration examples, not Canadian certification. Match the exact truck, hitch, labels, tires, axle limits, passengers, cargo and measured trailer load. The 2022 certification-label campaign below adds a specific reason to check that the label itself is complete.
| Selected diesel configuration | Gooseneck entry | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| SRW Regular Cab 4x2, 3.31/3.55, 30,000-lb GCWR | 22,800 lb | 19,000-lb fifth-wheel hitch limit; 68D entry 19,200 lb |
| DRW Regular Cab 4x2, 4.10, 43,400-lb GCWR | 35,750 lb | 32,500-lb fifth-wheel limit |
| DRW Crew Cab 4x4, 4.10, 43,400-lb GCWR | 34,700 lb | 32,500-lb fifth-wheel limit; 68L entry 28,900 lb |
| DRW Crew Cab 4x2, 4.30, 43,500-lb GCWR | 34,600 lb | 32,500-lb fifth-wheel limit; conventional entry 24,200 lb |
Fuel-system history: diesel and gasoline actions are not interchangeable
24S78 / 24V957 covers a defined diesel high-pressure fuel-pump population. Ford's filing describes biodiesel deposits on pump drivetrain roller components; its Super Duty production window ends on 23 August 2021 despite including selected 2022 model-year trucks. A model-year badge alone cannot establish coverage.
The current 24S78 summary specifies PCM and TCM software updates. 26S17 / 26V158 separately addresses trucks previously repaired incorrectly under 24V957 and specifies a PCM update. Ask for current VIN eligibility and the completed follow-up, not merely an older campaign invoice.
25S75 / 25V455 is categorized as a gasoline fuel-pump action. Its current remedy distinguishes low-pressure pump replacement on affected Super Duty vehicles from PCM updates on other affected models. It is not evidence of a 6.7-litre diesel low-pressure-pump defect or a substitute remedy for 24S78.
Labels, airbags, wipers and cameras add specific inspection questions
22C09 / 22V384 concerns certification labels missing tire size, rim type and tire-pressure information. The remedy is label replacement. This is not the 2020 F-350 overstated-payload campaign, and this guide does not invent replacement tire pressures or load figures.
21C26 / 21V805 concerns front-door side-impact pressure sensors; 21S49 / 21V923 concerns driver airbag-cover strength and replaces the driver airbag module. They are separate restraint-system records. Wiper-arm actions 22S26 and 26S24 also require current VIN checks rather than assuming that any prior wiper replacement closed both.
For camera-equipped trucks, distinguish 25S05 camera replacement as necessary from 25SA8 image-processing software for certain lighting conditions. Verify camera function and repair history independently of the SYNC screen generation. Other returned records include gas/aluminum-driveshaft insulators, a SuperCab manual addendum and a moonroof wind deflector; equipment determines relevance.
Buying checklist and honest reliability verdict
First resolve any applicable no-drive instruction. Then reconcile the VIN, build date, engine, transmission, SRW/DRW layout, cab, wheelbase, axle, GVWR package and complete certification labels. Review hub and trailer-system repairs before using towing capability as a reason to buy.
Obtain dated service and repair invoices and an independent inspection covering the actual powertrain, fuel system, brakes, steering, suspension, tires and hitch installation. Exact 2022 owner literature was not recovered in this review, so no maintenance interval is borrowed from another year. Request the correct manual and duty-specific schedule for the truck.
The 17-record U.S. campaign snapshot is a research inventory, not 17 defects on every truck, a failure rate or Canadian VIN clearance. Ford Canada and a Canadian dealer must resolve local applicability and completion. Brochure and towing evidence establish configurations, not long-term durability.
A documented, correctly configured truck may remain a purchase candidate; unresolved safety work, missing labels or unclear major repairs justify pausing. This year-specific guide supplies no reliability ranking, promised lifespan, active inventory, seller count, price or offer. It keeps 2022 reliability distinct from general model and towing guidance.
Evidence note: manufacturer documents establish the specific facts and applications cited. Buying workflows and cost scenarios are DieselTrucks.ca editorial guidance. These pages do not publish measured failure rates or confirm the condition, recall status or capacity of a particular truck.
