Confirm the truck is cold
Ask the seller to leave the truck off, then check whether the engine and cooling system appear already warm before starting. Do not touch unsafe hot or moving components.
Observe, do not diagnose
Watch crank time, warning lamps, gauges, charging behaviour, abnormal noise, smoke and new leaks. Record conditions and video where permitted. A symptom is a reason to investigate, not a diagnosis by itself.
Continue beyond startup
A normal-looking start does not replace a scan, road test, service-history review and mechanical inspection. Cold weather, altitude, fuel and model-specific strategy affect behaviour.
