Rear GAWR is the maximum permitted load assigned by the manufacturer to the rear axle system. Fifth-wheel pin weight is carried in the truck bed and can materially increase the loaded rear-axle weight.
Read the rating on the exact truck
Find the certification label and record rear GAWR. Do not transfer a number from another cab, bed, SRW/DRW or model-year configuration.
Build the rear-axle load picture
Start with measured axle weights where appropriate, then account for hitch equipment, loaded pin weight, cargo placement, occupants and accessories. Weight distribution between axles is configuration-specific.
Check every applicable limit
Remaining payload alone does not replace rear GAWR, GVWR, tire, wheel, hitch, trailer and GCWR checks. The lowest applicable limit still matters.
