RAM's official 2021 3500 chart publishes 74 configuration-level maximum-trailer values from 13,660 to 37,100 lb. The minimum is a gas DRW Mega Cab 4x4 with the 3.73 axle. The maximum is a high-output Cummins DRW Regular Cab 4x2 with the Aisin transmission, 4.10 axle and 45,000-lb GCWR. Ten body and drivetrain families, two wheel layouts and three powertrain branches make the complete row more important than the model badge. These U.S.-hosted manufacturer estimates do not certify an unseen Canadian VIN or a loaded truck.

Direct answer: 13,660 to 37,100 lb across completed pickups

The sole 37,100-lb entry is the 4x2 Regular Cab, 8-foot-box, DRW row with the high-output 6.7L Cummins, AS69RC Aisin six-speed, 4.10 axle, 14,000-lb GVWR and 45,000-lb GCWR. Its adjacent 3.73 row is 33,700 lb, so neither the Cummins badge nor DRW alone establishes the maximum.

The 13,660-lb minimum belongs to the 4x4 Mega Cab, standard 6-foot-4 box, gas DRW row with the 6.4L V8, 3.73 axle and 21,500-lb GCWR. RAM publishes 17,160 lb for the adjacent 4.10 branch.

Use the complete selector chain

Choose 4x2 or 4x4, cab, standard box or RamBox, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission and axle ratio before reading GVWR, base weight, GAWR, GCWR and maximum trailer from the same row. Nearby rows may share an engine while publishing a different base weight or combined rating.

RAM labels payload and maximum-trailer weights as estimated values rounded to the nearest 10 lb and says those maxima are mutually exclusive. Passengers, options, cargo, hitch equipment and tongue or pin weight still consume truck and axle capacity.

Three powertrain paths stay separate

The gas 6.4L V8 uses the 8HP75 eight-speed. The standard-output 6.7L Cummins uses the 68RFE six-speed, while the high-output Cummins uses the AS69RC Aisin six-speed. The diesel branches are not interchangeable simply because both displace 6.7 litres.

All 4x2 completed-pickup ratings

Slash pairs preserve RAM's 3.73/4.10 order. A single SRW diesel value means only a 3.73 row is published. Short-box Crew Cab and RamBox groups have no DRW cells, so those absences remain dashes.

The 4x4 matrix adds Mega Cab and keeps RamBox separate. DRW appears only for the standard-box Mega Cab, Regular Cab long box and Crew Cab long box. The other three body families are SRW-only in this source.

The matrix contains 74 populated trailer cells

Four 4x2 body groups contain 30 populated cells and six 4x4 groups contain 44. Gas contributes 30 ratings; standard-output and high-output Cummins contribute 22 each. Repeated values remain separate only when their source selectors differ.

2021 remains independent of the 2020 table

The 2021 high-output Regular Cab DRW 4.10 row pairs 45,000 lb of GCWR with 37,100 lb of maximum trailer weight. That is a new exact-year cell, not a correction applied backward to 2020.

The 4x4 Mega Cab high-output DRW pair is 32,580/33,200 lb, while the 4x2 long-box Crew Cab pair is 33,070/34,470 lb. These printed figures are retained without recalculation.

GVWR and GCWR are row-specific constraints

Gas SRW GVWR spans 10,700–11,400 lb, diesel SRW spans 11,500–12,300 lb and every populated DRW row is 14,000 lb. Shared GVWR does not make bodies equivalent because base weight, axle ratings and GCWR differ. GCWR spans 21,500–45,000 lb and limits the combined vehicle-and-trailer total, not the trailer alone.

One maximum-trailer column is not three hitch matrices

RAM's notes require a fifth-wheel hitch above 23,000 lb and a gooseneck hitch above 30,000 lb. The chart nevertheless publishes one maximum-trailer column, not separate conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck tables. No method-specific rating is invented, and the installed hitch may impose a lower limit.

No separate box-off rows are published here

All 74 cells are pickups with a standard box or RamBox. The notes mention an 80-lb-per-foot body-completion allowance for box-off calculations, but this nine-page document contains no separate box-off body rows, maximum-upfit matrix or completed-body rating. No 2020 box-off value is reused or inferred.

Payload and trailer maxima cannot be stacked

Tongue or pin weight loads the truck together with people, tools, cargo, options, accessories and hitch hardware. Start from the truck's certification and loading labels, then verify truck, trailer, combined and axle weights in the intended operating condition.

Source method and limits

The official nine-page PDF was downloaded, hashed, extracted with layout preservation, rendered at 150 dpi and visually checked page by page on 14 September 2026. Its SHA-256 begins 5153a638; the printed document date is 28 October 2020.

RAM identifies the figures as SAE J2807 estimates using 300 lb of passenger weight, 100 lb of options, and 75 lb for conventional-hitch equipment, 70 lb for gooseneck equipment or 250 lb for fifth-wheel equipment. Those assumptions do not replace actual weights.

Verify a candidate before towing

Confirm model year, pickup body, cab, box, drivetrain, SRW or DRW, engine, transmission and axle ratio. Photograph certification and loading labels, obtain the build record, identify the installed hitch, and account for every passenger, accessory, cargo item and tongue or pin load. The lowest vehicle, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or legal limit governs.

Canadian use requires the individual truck's evidence

This U.S.-hosted matrix does not establish the original market or certified rating of an unseen Canadian VIN. A Canadian candidate needs its physical labels, build documentation, installed-equipment limits and applicable provincial or territorial rules. A similar badge is not evidence for transferring a cell.

FAQ: does every high-output Cummins tow 37,100 lb?

No. High-output completed-pickup values span 23,000–37,100 lb. Cab, box, drivetrain, SRW or DRW, axle, base weight and GCWR determine the matching row. The maximum is one 4x2 Regular Cab DRW configuration.

FAQ: may missing RamBox or DRW cells be inferred?

No. Mega Cab is 4x4-only, RamBox is SRW-only and short-box Crew Cab groups contain no DRW cells in this matrix. Missing cells stay missing instead of borrowing standard-box, long-box or prior-year values.
