Start with the work body, not the model year
Identify whether the truck is a dump, service body, landscape deck, tow unit, delivery body or another completed configuration. Record the chassis VIN, engine and transmission, final-stage manufacturer, body serial number, wheelbase, cab-to-axle and installed equipment. A 4500 that cannot carry or operate the required body is not the best purchase regardless of year.

Stellantis TSB 21-039-26, dated 8 May 2026, includes defined RAM 4500 applications with specified Aisin transmissions, build timing and repair history. For 2019–2021 trucks, its scope additionally requires a complete new transmission installed during the stated February–December 2022 window. It is not a reason to replace the clutch in every operating gearbox.
Ask for transmission identification and invoices for any complete unit installed. If the truck experienced loss of lower gears or the cited code, obtain the diagnosis, repair and result.
