A used 2022 RAM 2500 needs more than a generic assurance that its software is current. The exact-year record includes a Cummins engine-control module replacement, several separate rear-camera software actions, two different stability-control concerns and a superseded heater-relay campaign. Those are different repair questions. This review, checked on 15 September 2026, ties them to the actual 2022 owner literature and configuration charts. It does not turn twelve U.S. campaign records into a reliability score, a Canadian VIN clearance or twelve independent defects on every truck.

The 2022 ECM concern is hardware, not a radio update

Z87 / 22V642000 identifies selected 2022 vehicles with the 6.7L Cummins whose engine control module may contain a misaligned capacitor. The described short can cause an internal loss of communication and loss of drive power. The published remedy is replacement of the ECM. A receipt for a radio update, generic diagnostic scan or unrelated engine calibration does not establish that replacement.

The campaign covers several Heavy Duty applications, but that shared scope does not make their capacities, transmissions or eligibility identical. For a candidate 2500, obtain the VIN-specific manufacturer response and the itemized repair order. If an unresolved safety concern or loss-of-power symptom is present, arrange qualified evaluation before a road test rather than trying to reproduce the fault in traffic.

Three camera actions and two ABS concerns need separate records

The model-year query returns the following distinct software actions. Their similar symptoms do not justify combining campaign identifiers or claiming one update superseded another. The reviewed records do not establish a single universal software installation that closes all five.

CampaignCondition describedPublished remedy and record to request
Z47 / 22V407000Radio software may prevent the rearview image from displaying.Reprogram the radio; retain the campaign-specific completion record.
97A / 23V654000Radio software may prevent display of the rearview image.Update radio software; reconcile this action separately.

Z20 / 22V140000ABS software may keep the ESC malfunction lamp from illuminating.Update ABS software; this concerns warning indication.
55B / 24V415000ABS software may disable electronic stability control.Update ABS software; this concerns ESC availability, not just its lamp.

Identify the fitted Uconnect system before judging its behaviour

The 2022 owner's manual covers Uconnect 3 with a 5-inch display as well as Uconnect 5 and 5 NAV with an 8.4-inch display, and 5 NAV with a 12-inch display. On the described 8.4-inch interface, the NAV icon distinguishes the navigation-equipped branch. Do not assume that every 2022 trim has the largest screen or the same radio merely because the cover photograph shows it.

The manual's voice-control section identifies the configurable wake word for Uconnect 5. A previous owner's changed setting or a phone-compatibility problem is not automatically the same fault as a missing rear-camera image. After any applicable safety actions are resolved, check the actual camera display, controls, connection and fitted functions without relying on a brochure photograph.

The multimedia section directs owners to the separate Uconnect supplement for detailed 5/5 NAV instructions. It says screen illustrations may not match the exact software version and recommends checking available updates, using the Canadian Uconnect site for Canadian owners. It also warns that current software does not eliminate every cybersecurity risk and calls for trusted connected devices. These are owner-use precautions, not proof of a defect rate.

This review used an externally archived manufacturer-authored 2022 second-edition manual, publication 22_DJD2_OM_EN_USC. Its cover and selected radio-identification and software pages were visually verified. The full 464-page manual and separate Uconnect supplement have not been exhaustively reviewed; no complete maintenance schedule or software-version certification is claimed here.

Do not lose the intake-heater parking instruction among software repairs

Y76 / 21V798000 is expressly superseded by 13A / 23V060000. The later action describes an intake-heater relay that can short with the ignition on or off and calls for relay replacement. For an affected vehicle awaiting repair, its instruction is to park outside and away from structures. An earlier Y76 receipt is not automatically closure of 13A; obtain the current manufacturer guidance for the VIN.

ZA3 / 22V835000 is a separate transmission-fluid concern with a dipstick and transmission-vent replacement remedy. Y99 / 21V925000 concerns side-curtain assemblies with an incorrect amount of compressed gas, whereas 14C / 25V765000 concerns the steering-column control module and intended driver-airbag deployment. ZB8 / 22V904000 concerns tailgate-striker alignment.

These six records, the ECM action and five software records account for the twelve returned entries. The linked relay entries demonstrate why a raw count is not twelve independent failures. Nor does the relay filing establish an intake-grid fastener failure rate, justify an aftermarket deletion, or confirm Canadian applicability. Keep each repair and any remaining safety restriction visible in the purchase file.

Exact 2022 rows are 19,990 lb, not a rounded 20,000-lb promise

Stellantis' exact 2022 charts pair the 6.7L Cummins with the six-speed 68RFE and 3.73 axle in these examples. The gasoline rows instead use the 6.4L Hemi and eight-speed 8HP75, with axle-dependent ratings. A 3500 high-output claim or gas eight-speed description must not be assigned to the 2500 diesel.

The Regular Cab 4x2 diesel example is 19,990 lb at 27,320-lb GCWR, compared with the reviewed 2021 row's 20,000 lb. Its estimated payload is 3,150 lb at 10,000-lb GVWR or 3,050 lb at 9,900-lb GVWR. This small published difference is not a measured change in durability.

A smaller GVWR row changes the usable comparison

The 9,900-lb short-box 4x4 row is 19,340 lb without RamBox and 18,220 lb with RamBox, despite both listing 27,980-lb GCWR. The long-box example is 17,210 lb at 26,400-lb GCWR. Those differences make a model-name maximum insufficient for a Canadian purchase. Match the actual certification labels and build; this table does not assign a country or capacity to an unseen VIN.

The six-page 4x4 chart was recovered from RAM's Body Builder service; the five-page 4x2 manufacturer chart came from an external archive. Both identify the 2022 application internally. These are selected completed-pickup rows, not a full reproduction or box-off conversion assessment.

Treat payload and trailer maxima as separate constraints, not simultaneously available allowances. Occupants, cargo, accessories and hitch hardware consume carrying capacity; trailer tongue or pin load also counts on the truck. Check actual loaded weights against GVWR, each axle and tire limit, GCWR and every hitch component. A larger number from another row does not cure a mismatch.

A purchase decision based on traceable work

First reconcile current Canadian VIN status and restrictions through the manufacturer. Then separate ECM replacement, radio updates, ABS work, heater-relay replacement, transmission venting, restraints and tailgate work in the records. A generic 'computer update' line is not an adequate description of all those operations.

With safety concerns resolved, commission an independent inspection of starting, leaks, warning history, shifting, steering, suspension, tires and modifications, and compare the truck with its proposed load. The strongest candidate is the one whose actual condition, documentation and configuration support your use—not one assigned stars from campaign totals. No lifespan, best-year ranking or failure rate is established. The site's catalogue profiles remain reference material, not active inventory, verified sellers or offers.

Evidence note: manufacturer documents establish the specific facts and applications cited. Buying workflows and cost scenarios are DieselTrucks.ca editorial guidance. These pages do not publish measured failure rates or confirm the condition, recall status or capacity of a particular truck.
