NHTSA's exact vehicle result and model-year recall listings identify one power-unlatching-tailgate action for this truck. GM also published diesel injector-connector and severe-dust EVAP procedures that include the 2023 Silverado 3500HD. Identify the 2023 powertrain and completed configuration first

Chevrolet's 2023 HD literature keeps the 6.6L Duramax diesel at 445 hp and 910 lb-ft with the Allison ten-speed. The 6.6L gasoline V8 remains a separate 401-hp, 464-lb-ft combination with a six-speed. The injector-connector bulletin below is limited to the L5P diesel, while the trailering matrix splits gas and diesel as well as single- and dual-rear-wheel trucks.

Record the engine, transmission, cab, bed, drive, rear-axle layout, GVWR branch and hitch type before applying a service or towing record. A Silverado 3500HD badge does not prove that the truck is diesel, DRW, equipped with Max Trailering or represented by a brochure maximum. Replacement powertrain components and body or hitch modifications also belong in the file.

The exact 2023 model result identifies one tailgate campaign

The exact 2023 Chevrolet 3500 Silverado result identifies 24V060000, GM N232426400. GM's amended Part 573 filing covers certain 2020–2024 Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks fitted with the QT5 manual gate that has power lock and power release. Water can reach the exterior electronic release switch, short the circuit and allow the gate to unlatch while the truck is in Park.

The consequence arises later if an unlatched gate opens while driving and unsecured cargo leaves the bed. GM's interim direction is to check that the gate is closed and latched before driving; the published remedy replaces the exterior touchpad switch assemblies. An apparently working switch is not a completed-repair record.

Check the build/RPO record, current VIN result and itemized repair order. A damaged hinge, latch, cable or collision-repaired gate is a different finding unless diagnosis connects it to the campaign condition. The U.S. result does not establish Canadian applicability or completion for an unseen VIN.

A diesel misfire is not an automatic injector replacement

GM bulletin 23-NA-027 includes 2017–2023 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with the L5P diesel. It addresses poor performance, misfires, the malfunction indicator lamp and listed injector-circuit or cylinder-misfire codes, including P0201–P0208 and P0300–P0308. GM identifies vibration wear between an injector connector terminal and the high-pressure injector as a possible cause.

The procedure requires terminal-fit probing and a visual check for fretting or black powder. Connector replacement follows a failed probe or visible condition. The bulletin does not say that every misfire is electrical, that every injector should be replaced or that clearing a code establishes repair.

For a used Duramax, ask for the original scan, the cylinder involved, the connector findings, parts replaced and the post-repair result. Keep connector work separate from an injector, fuel-pressure, compression or emissions diagnosis. High-pressure diesel components should not be disturbed during an informal purchase inspection.

The dust bulletin is conditional and the filter remains a service item

GM bulletin 23-NA-073 covers 2020–2024 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD trucks in severe dusty operation. It describes dust reaching the evaporative-emissions system, plugging the canister or vent solenoid and setting P0442, P0446, P0455 or P0449. The operating environment and codes are part of the scope.

GM's published correction is a customer-pay alteration that adds an inline filter, and the bulletin describes that filter as a maintenance item requiring periodic inspection. It is not a safety recall, a universal factory defect or permission to fit parts to every truck with an EVAP light.

Ask where the truck worked and whether it regularly followed unpaved roads, agricultural equipment or construction traffic. Preserve scan and diagnostic records. Inspect the canister, solenoid, hoses, routing and any filter work instead of assuming that a clean dashboard proves the condition never existed.

Trailer-brake messages need truck-versus-trailer isolation

The exact-year HD manual separates CHECK TRAILER WIRING from SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM. A wiring message can arise from the trailer connection or the truck-side circuit and requires the manual's isolation sequence. A persistent service message identifies an integrated trailer-brake-control problem requiring service.

Either condition can mean reduced or absent trailer braking. A message that clears, an illuminated gain display or an unloaded parking-lot response is not a completed diagnosis. Stop towing if warning behaviour or brake response is abnormal and have the intended truck-and-trailer combination assessed safely.

Keep connector corrosion, trailer wiring, brake magnets or actuators, and truck-side controller repair as separate items. The two GM bulletins reviewed above do not authorize replacing the brake controller from a message alone, and a campaign-completed tailgate does not clear the towing-electrical system.

Brake-pad-life percentages can be reset or disabled

The 2023 Silverado HD manual describes front and rear brake-pad-life percentages as estimates. The system is reset after pad replacement and also permits a manual reset. A high displayed percentage therefore cannot replace physical inspection of pads, rotors, sensors and both axles' service history.

The display can be disabled, including when aftermarket pads without wear sensors are installed. In that state the percentages disappear, while mechanical wear indicators remain. Missing, reset or high percentages do not diagnose hydraulic condition or establish lining thickness.

Chevrolet calls for pad replacement as complete axle sets. The manual also distinguishes normal fluid movement as linings wear from a hydraulic leak and warns that adding fluid does not repair a leak. Reconcile display history, invoices and direct inspection before assigning brake condition.

The 36,000-lb claim requires the marked diesel DRW branch

Chevrolet's 2023 matrix puts the 36,000-lb gooseneck maximum on the Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD DRW Work Truck with the Max Trailering Package. Its fifth-wheel branch is 32,000 lb, not 36,000 lb. Without Max Trailering, the marked gooseneck branch is 35,000 lb. The hitch and package conditions must stay separate.

The same matrix includes lower DRW rows. A Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 4WD DRW position is 31,760 lb for the combined in-bed rating, while a Duramax Crew Cab long-bed 4WD DRW position is 31,180 lb. Both selected rows retain a 20,000-lb conventional maximum. Those figures cannot be transferred to an SRW truck or mixed with another row's GCWR.

Use the certification, payload and trailering labels on the completed truck, confirm the installed hitch, and account for passengers, cargo, pin or tongue weight and real axle loads. An exact brochure row is a comparison point, not VIN-level permission or evidence that a used truck stayed within it.
