The better choice is the complete RAM or Ford that fits the defined job with verified capacity reserve and acceptable condition, records, support and ready-to-use cost. The displacement tie proves none of those things. A current output headline also cannot be assigned to an earlier truck or another application.
Use hard gates before preferences: exact identity, ownership, required emissions state, structural and safety condition, configuration ratings and current campaign research. If both candidates pass, score them with the same evidence. The Cummins wins only where that particular RAM is the stronger fit; the Power Stroke wins only where that particular Super Duty is.
Normalized comparison: same displacement, different systems
Both families contain change points worth researching. Neither family label identifies the installed transmission, emissions system, axle, ratings, software state or present condition.

Engine output must be matched by model year and application
Cummins' 7 January 2025 release lists 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft for the revised pickup application and separately lists 360 hp and 800 lb-ft for chassis cab. Ford Canada's current Super Duty page lists a maximum available diesel 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft, but those are maximum available current-range values with configuration conditions—not specifications for every F-250, F-350, F-450 or earlier 6.7L truck.
For used candidates, retrieve their own model-year documents and distinguish standard from high output where applicable. Confirm installed transmission and whether hardware and calibration remain supported. Horsepower and torque help define an application; they do not prove trailer capacity, acceleration under the buyer's load, fuel consumption, durability or remaining life.
Towing and payload: two matrices, many configurations
RAM's 2024 Heavy Duty chart separates model, engine, transmission, cab, box, drive, SRW/DRW, axle ratio, GVWR and GCWR. Ford's 2025 Super Duty guide separates model, engine/output, axle, cab, drive, wheelbase or box, GCWR and hitch method. Those original tables demonstrate why “6.7 versus 6.7” cannot generate one honest capacity number.
Photograph certification, tire and occupant/cargo labels. Retrieve the exact conventional or in-bed row and every applicable note. Add people, fuel, tools, accessories and hitch hardware; use representative loaded truck and trailer weights. Check GVWR, each GAWR, GCWR, payload, tires, wheels, hitch, trailer ratings and the manufacturer's trailer maximum separately. The lowest applicable limit governs.
Pickup, chassis cab and completed vehicle are separate lanes
Cummins and Ford both serve chassis-cab work, but incomplete vehicles acquire bodies, subframes, tanks, cranes, compressors, tools and hitches that change empty weight and axle distribution. Pickup ratings cannot be transferred to a chassis cab merely because the engine and badge look familiar.
Obtain the incomplete-vehicle and final-stage certification documents, body identity and installation records. Weigh the completed vehicle in representative working condition and check both axles. Confirm that a towing row's assumed body and equipment conditions match the finished truck. A bare-chassis or family maximum is not an offer-ready rating.
Transmission and driveline are part of the comparison
Cummins' current release identifies a new eight-speed pairing for 2025 pickup use, while earlier RAM 6.7L applications used different transmissions and calibrations. Ford's Super Duty generations likewise have different transmission and axle contexts. Do not compare engines while treating the parts that transmit and stop the load as footnotes.
Identify the exact transmission, transfer case, axle ratio, differentials, driveshafts, brakes, steering, suspension, wheels and tires. Review service and repair evidence; scan supported modules; inspect for heat, leaks, vibration, noise and non-stock geometry. Test cold and hot under suitable conditions. A replacement invoice should identify unit, parts, calibration and warranty.
Ride and daily use belong to the whole truck
Cab, wheelbase, suspension, SRW/DRW, tire construction, body, load and condition affect ride, steering, turning circle, noise, visibility and parking. A lightly equipped F-250 and a completed RAM 5500 can share displacement while serving opposite daily needs.
Drive each candidate on the actual route pattern when practical. Check cold start, low-speed manoeuvring, braking, tracking, transmission behaviour, regeneration information, controls, seating and visibility. An unloaded test drive cannot duplicate a heavy trailer or service body, and a brand-level ride reputation cannot diagnose worn steering or suspension.
Fuel economy has no engine-only result
Heavy-duty configurations are not uniformly covered by Canada's light-duty fuel-consumption ratings. Online results also mix Imperial and U.S. MPG, load, speed, weather, idle/PTO time, terrain, tires and regeneration. There is no responsible single fuel winner across unmatched RAM and Ford trucks.
For candidates, compare repeated fill-to-fill logs with consistent units and documented duty. Record trailer weight, idle or PTO hours, route, speed and temperature. Model annual low, expected and high fuel cases, but keep maintenance, repairs, financing and downtime separate. A dashboard value or current-engine claim is not a purchase guarantee.

No reviewed primary source supplies exposure-adjusted failure rates across every 6.7L Cummins and 6.7L Power Stroke generation. Ford's updated 24S78 filing defines a particular 2020–2022 6.7L high-pressure fuel-pump population and remedy. Modifications and emissions state can reverse the answer
Identify every tune, emissions change, turbo or fuel-system part, lift, wheel/tire change, auxiliary tank and towing modification. Request the reason, invoice, part number, installer and calibration evidence. Confirm present legal and diagnostic support with qualified sources for the operating jurisdiction.
Recently cleared codes, incomplete readiness, missing hardware, unexplained derates or unsupported calibration require investigation. An aftermarket change does not raise the certification label or convert one factory configuration into another. Price confirmed work from a written diagnosis; do not treat a seller's “deleted for reliability” statement as evidence.
Canadian ownership checks remain VIN-specific
Run the exact VIN through the relevant current manufacturer and Government of Canada systems and save the dated result. Match open campaigns with repair documents. A U.S. model-level filing can provide technical context but does not establish Canadian inclusion, completion, history, warranty or admissibility.
Verify ownership, liens, insurance and provincial or territorial registration and inspection requirements. Commercial operation may add weight, brake, inspection, licence, hours or National Safety Code obligations. Neither an engine badge nor this comparison supplies legal clearance.
Used-market economics: calculate ready-to-work cost
Compare the written purchase price plus transaction costs, due-now maintenance, diagnosed repairs, tires, brakes, hitch or body work, insurance, registration, work equipment and a separate reserve/downtime plan. Use current quotes and avoid turning an unknown into zero.
For method illustration only, a C$42,000 candidate plus C$2,500 of transaction and due-now service, C$3,000 of diagnosed work and C$5,500 protected reserve creates a C$53,000 planned cash need.
