A 2022 RAM 3500 described as 'all software recalls done' still needs its actual repair operations checked. The year-specific evidence includes an ECM hardware replacement, ABS and camera software actions, heater-relay replacement and application-limited entries that should not be assigned to every pickup. Reviewed on 15 September 2026, this guide connects twelve retrieved U.S. campaign records with selected manufacturer load and owner-manual evidence. It offers a configuration-aware buying assessment, not Canadian VIN clearance or a measured reliability ranking.
An ECM replacement is not a radio or ABS update
Z87 / 22V642000 concerns specified 2022 Cummins-equipped RAM trucks whose engine control module may contain a misaligned capacitor. The resulting short can interrupt internal communication and cause loss of drive power. The published remedy is replacement of the ECM—not simply reprogramming the radio or describing the vehicle as 'updated.'
55B / 24V415000 concerns ABS control-module software that may disable electronic stability control. Its remedy is an ABS software update. 66B / 79B / 24V436000 instead concerns radio software that can prevent the rearview image from displaying, with dealer or over-the-air software delivery described in the record.
Obtain campaign-specific invoices and current manufacturer VIN status for all applicable actions. A working camera does not certify the ECM hardware, and an ECM replacement does not demonstrate the ABS update. If a candidate stalls, loses power or has active brake/stability warnings, defer the purchase for professional diagnosis rather than treating an unrelated completed campaign as the explanation.
Three returned entries are explicitly chassis-cab scope exclusions
The model query also returns Z20 / 22V140000, an ABS/ESC malfunction-indicator concern. Its RAM 3500 population specifies cab chassis vehicles below 10,000-lb GVWR. That is different from 55B's description of disabled ESC, and is not a blanket completed-pickup action.
Z47 / 22V407000 and 97A / 23V654000 are radio/rearview-image actions whose RAM 3500 populations likewise specify cab chassis below 10,000-lb GVWR. They are retained as explicit scope exclusions here, not merged into the pickup's 66B/79B record or counted as three camera failures on every truck.
This distinction comes from the records' stated applications, not from assuming all trucks wearing a 3500 badge are identical. A pickup with an actual camera or stability-control fault still needs assessment. Excluding an inapplicable campaign does not establish that the system is healthy or that the VIN has no other open action.
The heater-relay history has a stated supersession
Y76 / 21V798000 addresses an electrical short in the heater-grid relay, with fire possible when the ignition is on or off. That record explicitly says it was superseded by 23V060000 / 13A. The later action calls for relay replacement and advises affected, unrepaired owners to park outside and away from structures until the repair is completed.
An earlier inspection or conditional replacement receipt should be reconciled against the later VIN action; do not assume it closes 13A. These two related entries are not two demonstrated failures on the candidate. The electrical-relay record also does not quantify grid-heater fastener ingestion or support an aftermarket deletion recommendation.
Of the twelve retrieved entries, three are the chassis-cab exclusions above and two are this linked relay history. The three control-system actions in the first section and the four entries below complete the reviewed set. That accounting is a source audit, not a population failure count.
Transmission, restraint and tailgate work remains separate
Match each condition to the equipment and repair record. The model-query summary for ZA3 does not name a transmission model; it is not used to declare every Aisin or every 68RFE configuration eligible. Likewise, two airbag-related records concern different parts of the restraint system.

A Smart exhaust brake can feel different without proving failure
The manufacturer-authored 2022 manual distinguishes normal full-strength exhaust braking, indicated in yellow, from Automatic 'Smart' mode, indicated in green. Full mode is intended to reduce vehicle speed; Smart mode aims to maintain it and may not apply obvious braking when speed is not increasing.
The selected operating pages describe exhaust-brake operation after accelerator release above 5 mph / 8 km/h, stronger effect at higher engine speed and more aggressive automatic-transmission downshifts in Tow/Haul when enabled. Those operating conditions matter when a seller says the exhaust brake is weak or an inspector compares modes.
This is not a reason to dismiss a fault or to test braking at the truck's advertised maximum load. Have a qualified technician evaluate fitted equipment under appropriate conditions. The manual warns against exhaust-brake use on icy or slippery surfaces because increased engine braking can destabilize the rear wheels, and cautions against aftermarket exhaust brakes.

Use exact-year capacity evidence without turning it into durability evidence
The 37,090-lb row must not be rounded into the prior year's 37,100-lb figure or applied to a 13,500-lb-GVWR candidate. Payload and trailer maxima are estimated, rounded to 10 lb and mutually exclusive; the printed results are not recalculated from GCWR. These primary manufacturer charts are hosted in an external RV Safety archive, not on a current RAM server. They publish one maximum-trailer column plus hitch-threshold notes, not separate full hitch-method matrices. No box-off rating is derived from the body-completion note. Match actual labels, axle and tire limits, installed hitch and loaded weights, including occupants, cargo and tongue or pin load.
A reasonable buying decision requires current Canadian manufacturer VIN information, documented ECM hardware and software operations, final heater-relay status, appropriate transmission and restraint repairs, and an independent inspection. Check cold starting, shifting, leaks, brake warnings, steering, tires, suspension and modifications before accepting a seller's account of towing use.

Check the Aisin K1 bulletin independently of ZA3
Stellantis bulletin 21-002-23 Rev. B separately addresses the Aisin K1 clutch snap ring on specified trucks built on or before 1 December 2022. For a diesel pickup, verify AS69RC/DF2 identification. P0731-00 with loss of gears 1–4 is the stated diagnostic pattern; do not keep towing because fifth or reverse remains available. The special complete-replacement-transmission condition printed for 2019–2021 vehicles is not the bulletin's 2022 rule. Neither this service bulletin nor its historical unsold-VIN RSU proves an open Canadian safety recall or present warranty entitlement. Keep its diagnosis separate from ZA3 and obtain an itemized repair record.
