A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD review should not inherit every campaign or problem attached to the surrounding model years. The exact U.S. model-year query reviewed on 16 September 2026 returns three records: a narrowly defined brake-pressure-modulator action, a power-unlatching tailgate action and a diesel-only transmission action. Chevrolet's exact-year owner manual and 64-row trailering matrix add operating and workload boundaries. Together they support a configuration- and record-specific inspection, not a failure rate, a best-year ranking or Canadian VIN clearance.

Start with the engine, build record and installed equipment

The 2022 HD matrix separates the 6.6L L8T gasoline V8 from the 6.6L L5P Duramax diesel and then branches by cab, bed, drive, wheel size, GVWR and GCWR. The later transmission campaign explicitly applies to diesel vehicles and excludes gasoline trucks because they use a different transmission. The brake-modulator action depends on an assembly event, while the tailgate action depends on power-unlatching equipment.

Record the VIN, engine, transmission, axle and option codes, cab, bed, 2WD or 4WD, wheel-and-tire branch, GVWR, GCWR and hitch. Photograph the certification, tire/loading and trailering labels and compare them with the build record, invoices and campaign operations. A badge or a seller's statement cannot resolve those branches, and a software update is not the same event as a hardware replacement.

21V758 remains a narrow assembly-replacement BPMV action

21V758000 / N212349181 covers certain 2021–2022 Silverado and Sierra 2500/3500 trucks whose electronic brake control modules were replaced during vehicle assembly. GM's September 2021 communication says bolts joining the two brake-pressure-modulator-valve subassemblies may not have been tightened correctly. The resulting seal problem can permit water intrusion, an electrical short and an underhood fire.

The published corrective operation is replacement of the BPMV assembly. For an affected, unrepaired vehicle, the record instructs the owner to park outside and away from structures until repair. A brake-pad replacement, pad-life reset or generic brake-service invoice does not close that operation; retain the current VIN result and the repair order naming the applicable campaign work.

The query's inclusion of the campaign does not mean every 2022 truck received an EBCM replacement during assembly or contains the defect. Keep normal hydraulic, friction and trailer-brake diagnosis separate from campaign applicability. Do not deliberately reproduce a brake or fire condition during an inspection.

24V797 is diesel-only and its first remedy is protective software

24V797000 / N242454440 includes certain diesel-powered 2020–2022 Silverado 2500/3500 trucks. GM's Part 573 filing describes excessive transmission-control-valve wear that can reduce hydraulic pressure, cause harsh shifting and, during a downshift from eighth gear, produce a possible momentary rear-wheel lockup. Gasoline trucks are excluded because they use a different transmission.

The remedy installs control-module software that monitors valve performance. When it detects the condition before a wheel-lock event, it limits the transmission to fifth gear and displays a service-engine light and reduced-propulsion message. That protective state is not proof that the valve body or transmission was renewed, and restarting the truck is not a permanent repair.

Ask for the campaign-completion record, calibration history and any later transmission diagnosis or special-coverage work. The exact 2022 Silverado 2500 query does not return 26V083, the follow-up found in the exact 2020 query for certain incorrectly repaired vehicles. That absence is a query boundary, not evidence that a particular VIN is clear.

The power-tailgate record needs an equipment and latch check

24V060000 / N232426400 concerns certain 2020–2024 Silverado and Sierra 2500/3500 trucks equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. Water intrusion into the exterior gate-release switch can create a short and permit the tailgate to unlatch while the vehicle is parked. If the driver then moves with an unlatched gate, unsecured cargo can leave the bed.

The published remedy is replacement of the exterior touchpad switch assembly, and the interim instruction is to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Verify installed equipment, current applicability and the exact replacement operation. Also inspect the hinges, cables, latch engagement, wiring, bed edge and any tailgate or camera modifications; damage or poor alignment still requires diagnosis even when a campaign is closed.

Owner-manual warnings keep truck, trailer and display evidence separate

The exact 2022 owner manual distinguishes CHECK TRAILER WIRING from SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM. Its wiring-message sequence disconnects the trailer harness, cycles the ignition after ten seconds and observes whether the message returns without the trailer or only after reconnection. That helps separate vehicle-side from trailer-side wiring; it does not make intermittent loss of trailer braking acceptable.

If either message appears while driving, the manual warns that integrated trailer braking may be reduced or absent and directs the driver to pull over carefully when traffic permits, inspect the connection and seek vehicle or trailer service if the message continues. A service-system message persisting across multiple ignition cycles requires service. Test the connector and controller with qualified equipment rather than assuming every warning identifies the truck module.

The same manual says Brake Pad Life percentages are estimates, can be reset and may be disabled for pads without wear sensors. Measure pads and rotors at both axles and inspect calipers, hoses and fluid rather than treating a display percentage as physical proof. Its Trailer Length Indicator is a driver-assistance overlay entered through the Trailer Profile and displays a red zone on the side-mirror camera view; it does not measure loaded weight, certify clearance or replace mirror checks.

Use the 64-row matrix to reconstruct workload, not condition

Chevrolet's official 2022 guide uses four numbered pages for 64 Silverado 2500HD configuration rows and 128 base hitch cells. Conventional ratings remain separate from one combined gooseneck/fifth-wheel column; this source does not authorize invented independent numbers for those two in-bed hitch types. Ten marked conventional positions also carry a distinct 12,000-lb mud-terrain alternative.

The highest combined in-bed cell is 18,510 lb for a Duramax Regular Cab long-bed 2WD with 17-inch wheels, 10,550-lb GVWR and 26,000-lb GCWR. Selected Duramax Crew Cab positions reach 18,500 lb conventional and in-bed with the required 18- or 20-inch wheel and 27,500-lb GCWR branches. The High Country row can show 18,310 lb in-bed rather than the adjacent 18,500-lb cell.

Optional 10,000-lb-GVWR Crew Cab 4WD positions fall as low as 11,530 lb for the standard bed and 10,240 lb for the long bed in the combined in-bed column. Use those differences to question prior work, then verify the individual labels, hitch hardware, payload, axle and tire limits and actual loaded weights. A brochure maximum cannot prove compliant past use or remaining service life.

Build the inspection around records and repeatable observations

Begin with current U.S. and Canadian VIN checks, then match each applicable BPMV, tailgate and transmission operation to an itemized repair order. Scan relevant modules before clearing codes. Record cold and warm shift behaviour, brake-pedal feel and trailer-controller messages under safe unloaded conditions. Any open park-outside instruction, reduced-propulsion warning or loss of trailer-brake support takes priority over a towing test.

Inspect engine and transmission leaks and fluid condition, cooling, transfer case and axles, steering and suspension joints, brakes, tires, spare, hitch, bed structure, electrical connector, tailgate and camera system. Look for in-bed hitch mounting evidence and modifications. Ask for actual trailer type, loaded weight, pin or tongue load and work pattern; scale tickets and service receipts are stronger evidence than a maximum-rating claim.

Missing records justify more inspection but do not prove abuse or a specific failure. A qualified diesel-capable technician should investigate persistent shift, brake, wiring or hydraulic symptoms before purchase or towing. Use the truck's labels and loaded measurements for the final operating decision.

Verdict and evidence limits

A supportable 2022 Silverado 2500HD purchase has a build record that matches its labels, current applicable campaign closures, sound hydraulic and friction brakes, a coherent diesel-transmission history and a trailer plan suited to its exact configuration. The strongest year-specific questions are whether the narrow BPMV action applies, whether a diesel has the correct transmission software and subsequent diagnosis, and whether the power tailgate latches after the switch remedy.

This guide reviews the exact three-record U.S. query, primary GM brake and transmission material, selected systems in the 441-page exact-year owner manual and all four Silverado 2500HD matrix pages. It does not audit every Duramax maintenance or emissions procedure, establish Canadian VIN status, predict lifespan, assign a failure frequency or rank 2022 against another year.
