LM2 and LZ0 are separate specification identities
GM describes LZ0 as the second-generation 3.0L turbo-diesel following LM2. That statement supports a generation boundary; it does not say every specification changed or stayed the same. GM's current technical page identifies LZ0 as a longitudinal 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel with 2,999 cc/183 cubic inches of displacement. It publishes an 84 mm bore, 90 mm stroke and 15.2:1 compression ratio. The valvetrain is dual overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder and mechanical roller valve lifters; the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.
These are manufacturer-published LZ0 engineering fields. They are useful for source-scoped identification and technical comparison, but they do not authorize a repair procedure, part order or LM2 inference. A component may have a production revision even when a headline dimension is unchanged. For service or parts, use the candidate VIN, build data and current GM information.

LZ0 materials are component-specific
The LZ0 reference lists cast-aluminum block and cylinder head, a composite intake manifold, nodular-iron exhaust manifold and main-bearing caps, forged-steel crankshaft and connecting rods, assembled-steel camshaft and steel pistons. Record each component separately instead of compressing the engine into an aluminum or steel label.
A material entry describes the cited production design, not remaining thickness, heat history, crack status, wear or repairability in a used engine. It also does not prove that an aftermarket or replacement component matches factory construction. Candidate condition still requires records, inspection and appropriate diagnosis; parts ordering requires the exact application and current catalogue.
What changed for the second-generation LZ0
Chevrolet's introduction attributes the LZ0 output increase to several changes: new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a retuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors and improved temperature-control features. GM's current page also describes new injectors for higher fuel pressure and a revised turbo. These sources support named engineering revisions, not a claim that every component is new or that one change alone caused the complete gain.
Chevrolet calculated the announced improvement against the cited 2022 LM2 as 10 percent more horsepower and 7.6 percent more torque. That launch comparison is useful generation context. It is not a measured result for a used truck, proof of fuel savings, a durability ranking or permission to retrofit LZ0 parts to LM2.
Read horsepower, torque and engine speed together
The LZ0 headline is not simply 305 and 495. GM states 305 hp at 3,750 rpm, 495 lb-ft at 2,750 rpm and 94 percent of maximum torque by 1,500 rpm. The same sheet lists a maximum engine speed of 5,000 rpm. Peak location and early torque availability explain more than an isolated number, but they still do not predict acceleration or grade performance without vehicle mass, gearing, tires, calibration and conditions.
Maximum engine speed is an engineering specification, not a recommended operating target or shift command. Follow the vehicle displays and owner literature. Fuel specification is not fuel-economy evidence
GM's LZ0 sheet lists ultra-low-sulfur diesel and B20 biodiesel as fuels. The exact vehicle supplement governs fuel quality, biodiesel limits, cold-weather handling, water management and warnings; a short technical-table entry should not replace those instructions. Confirm the fuel label and current manual for the vehicle's market and model year.
Compatibility with a fuel does not publish L/100 km, range, cost or emissions for a candidate truck. Those results depend on the complete application, configuration, route, temperature, load and measurement method. Do not derive a fuel-saving percentage from engine output or infer Canadian pump availability from a U.S. manufacturer specification.
The LZ0 emissions system is an integrated list
GM identifies high-pressure uncooled EGR, low-pressure cooled EGR, a close-coupled diesel oxidation catalyst, selective catalytic reduction on the particulate filter, downstream SCR and an ammonia-slip catalyst. The exact supplement also explains diesel exhaust fluid, regeneration messages and operating requirements. Preserve the complete application-specific system rather than reducing it to DPF and DEF.
A component list does not establish current condition, remaining life, fault frequency or a diagnosis. Warning messages, codes, tampering and service history require exact-vehicle evaluation. Oil, coolant and other capacities require their own application rows
The reviewed 2025 LZ0 supplement lists about 6.6 L/7.0 U.S. qt of engine oil with filter, while its pickup and SUV cooling-system rows differ. That is a practical warning against turning one engine-family sheet into a universal fluid chart. Record the vehicle application, system, service condition and units beside every quantity.
Capacity does not select the product or interval. The exact supplement separately specifies dexosD SAE 0W-20 for the cited LZ0 and describes the oil-life system. Use the dedicated oil-capacity, oil-type and maintenance pages so quantity, specification, viscosity, level and timing remain auditable rather than blended into one shorthand number.
The oil-pump-belt statement is not a replacement interval
GM's LZ0 technical page says the oil-pump belt was validated to 200,000 miles. That wording describes a validation distance; it is not automatically the scheduled replacement interval, guaranteed service life, warranty term or condition report for a candidate engine. Use the exact maintenance schedule and current service information for an actionable event.
Do not convert 200,000 miles to a maintenance promise or assume an LM2 shares the statement. Time, hours, use, service history, contamination and prior repairs are separate evidence. When a used truck approaches any cited distance, inspect its records and applicable GM instructions rather than predicting a failure or declaring the component safe.
Transmission pairing belongs to the vehicle configuration
Chevrolet's LZ0 launch material says the new engine was matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission for retail customers in the announced select Silverado trims. This supports the launch application; it does not prove the transmission code, ratios, calibration or availability of every later Chevrolet, GMC or SUV configuration.
Verify the complete build before comparing gearing, tow behaviour or service needs. Engine torque alone cannot establish axle torque without the selected gear and axle ratio, and a 10-speed label cannot establish condition. Preserve transmission identity, driveline, axle, tires and software evidence as separate candidate fields.
Application pages confirm context, not every candidate specification

A 305-hp, 495-lb-ft LZ0 rating does not create a tow rating. Trailering and payload depend on the complete truck: model, cab, bed, drive, axle, GVWR, GCWR, curb and option weight, tires, hitch type and other equipment. Use the candidate labels and configuration-specific manufacturer guide, and weigh the ready-to-travel truck when the decision requires it.
Do not transfer a family maximum from Chevrolet or GMC marketing to a Canadian VIN. A specification sheet cannot rank reliability

Use GM's owner recall lookup and the Government of Canada recall database with the exact VIN.
